Attention Imperial Citizens! The manuscript you are holding in your hand has been seized back from the heretic paws of awful rodent-liked creatures. While it has been purified by Aethergold and ten times blessed by Priests of the God-Emperor, the greatest vigilance is recommended! If you are feeling emotions like a megalomaniac desire to conquer the galaxy, an urge everyone is beneath you, or a desire to worship someone who is not the God-Emperor, please report your dreams, thoughts, and uncommon desires to the nearest Commissar or Arbites precinct, they will take care of the problem.

Praise the Master of Mankind, and good reading.

Hypothetically speaking, the musings of a certain author should go to The odds were never in my favour, the Dance is not Over, and Let the Galaxy Burn. Beta-ed version of the Interlude should arrive past mid-September. 54000 words take a while to correct.

Praise To The Emperor For Your Loyalty To Him.

Vortiboy27

So this is where operation Stalingrad is gonna take place: Due to Lorgar leading a large fleet of fanatics enroute to Cadia and into Nyx, where he can freely burn them to the ground. I mean, if Abaddon can blow up Cadia, Lorgar can do it but without the need to throw a Blackstone Fortress. Unless of course, Taylor stops him there and then.

... And suddenly, my day was so much better. Praise be the Remembrancer! All hail the Adeptus Historium!

Antony444

(Vader tone) I found your assumptions incredibly amusing. You underestimate the power of the Dark Side...

frank schellingerhout

thx for the words as always love there plans for the eldar of biel tan as for the talk with crawl one sentence fix "We saw each other not twenty-four years ago" me thinks it shoud be hours

ScreamingMidgit

I guess this means Rylanor will wind up being the Venerable Ancient for the III Legion chapter much like how Bjorn is for the Space Wolves... unless they somehow decide to forgo tradition and make a Dreadnought their chapter master.

Antony444

Naming a Dreadnought Chapter Master is never that great an idea. For all the tactical and strategic expertise they can bring to the table, the Venerable Ancients are feeling the mental strain which goes with being placed in these machines, and they tend too much to reminisce the good old days...

Antony444

Yes, it will be hours. As for Biel-Tan well, there's a big Ragnarok-level force heading their way...

Found the aversion the inquisitor had to democracy strange. As far as I know the vastness of the Imperium contains planets practising every political philosophy possible, as long as they remain loyal to the Emperor and pays their tithes. I wouldn't think that a planetary democracy is even that rare. On the Skaven speech, I think I prefer that when they double up on words they don't repeat themselves but rather string togheter two synonyms. Paying the tithe in Bacta would be ingenious if she can actually pull it off. Since it is so rare and effective a relatively small amount would still be worth astronomical amounts, and all the background industrial produce that they can do as they please with can be used to improve the sector, or shore up parts of the Segmentum that really needs aid. Bit unsure what the results of the STC negotiations were. Got the impression you didn't want to do the thing you did in the previous interludes where you specified what each printout got the sector so you instead just summarized it, but I wasn't really clear on if Taylor ended up with access to all the found templates or not, and what happened to the STC constructer for that matter. Lastly the treatment of the Rashan seemed extremely generous. Giving them a whole planet seems rather extreme. Alternatively giving them a Hive modified for their biology would also be generous in the extreme for a xenophobic culture, but be more reasonable imo. Thanks for writing!

Brett Tamahori

Um, is this supposed to smell like burnt fur? Anyway, onto the commentary. FOR THE EMPEROR! So, Skavan gonna Skavan, all according to keikaku (a joke that The Emperor and Leet might get, but nobody else, and The Emperor kinda wishes he didn't). Ah, Skavan speech never stop being funny, especially when it gets into their formal classification system. And then these people tapdance along the line of being truly scary vs more silly than the Orks, though enough rats will solve many a problem for them. It's a bit late to be thinking "Are we the baddies" at this point I think, but it's nice to see the normal certainty of Chaos has gotten a good solid Aethergold Infused Warpcannon blast to the face. And somebody is about to get a bad case of the rats, no, that's not an anomaly, that's rats starting the great contest of who is more bonkers in a fight between them and the Orks. Okay, I just saw how they deploy troops, that pretty much is Ork style crazy, just with warpstone instead of WAAAAARG ... still lots of green destruction though. When the Skaven run into the Orks shit is going to get messy and weird. Meanwhile we see that Chaos is still the big game in town and very willing to make a point of it. Not that the Word Bearers are going to have a good time of it and ... oh dear, they have Skaven in the sewers. Well they're just going to have to get used to having a Skaven problem, because you are not getting those fuzzy little shits out of there in any kind of hurry. Something tells me that Lorgar is not overjoyed with the current state of things. Oh dear, I wonder if we just met another Endbringer. Lorger mad. Skaven high command is pretty much exactly as organized as one would expect. Though to be fair, they are just a bit more obvious about murdering each other than, oh, the Imperium high command. All shall support the cause of Skavenfeminism! Warpstone bolters? Oh boy, that's going to be exciting to watch from a safe distance ... I suggest a different galaxy. And back to the forces of sanity. Yeah, Weaver is gonna be annoyed, she doesn't want to give up Wei Cao, and more to the point I think it was said in a few places Wei Cao isn't well suited to being a planetary governor. Meanwhile a whole lot of nobles are about to get purged or join the penal legions. I'm sure that will be instructive for the rest ... some day the rest might even get the fucking hint. Oh boy, some people are about to find out that Weaver has no time for arco-flagellants. I figured she was going to find out about them at some point and react remarkably badly. The fallout is going to almots be funny to watch for that mess. I expect right now Contessa was wishing she was dead, and not getting her wish. Ziz is here to remind some people of what a real fucking Endbringer is like. Odysseus is a very smart and wise man and very good at seeing which way the wind blows. Justin Kennedy is not having the best of days, though from the sound of it that planet has gone kinda nuts. Is this going to be some weird Weaver worship, or just overflow from the Emperor doing the things he does? Ah, back to Taylor. Hi Taylor. Ah, Wolfgang is off on an STC hunt, with solid information. He's about to be a _very_ successful Rogue Trader. Weaver can still somewhat just print money with the way she keeps ending up with STCs, but now we can see where she's spending it too and, yep, those Sectors and Sub-Sectors are about to become a lot more powerful, and hopfully a lot harder to attack because Lorgor still mad. Oh boy, Weaver and Belisarius Cawl in the same room, this should be interesting. Okay, lets see how big a bribe he can pull out given what he's already handed over. Okay, turns out he does have a big enough bribe, and a crazy enough plan. I'm guessing he plans on terraforming something into another Catachan, because why not? The hat shall never die! Plushies ... ah, Glenn would be proud of her right now. Okay, so not the terrforming that Cawl, which means his actual plan must have been even more crazy. Meanwhile Weaver is going all in on 'Play nice with me, and I will play very nice with you, even xenos.'. And if anyone doesn't like it, they can talk to the wings. Hmmm, I see she's after more tech upgrades, I suppose as a 'chosen of the Omnissiah' she can get away with some things others could not. And Weaver has her own Knight World, that should be useful in the future, because I just bet that House O'Hara is going to have some very very scary tech-upgraded Knights down the line. A pair of new chapters to be created, including her second 'redemption chapter'. And the Biel-Tan Crusade begins. While I fully get why she doesn't care about the other Craftworlds getting pissed off at her, I'm not sure she realizes just how many other Craftworlds are "They brought this on themselves." about the whole thing. We get to see the Custodes making their plans to start enforcing His will. I wonder how many assassin temples will be left by the end of this. Oh, that secessionist fleet is about to have a hell of a shock, not that it will last very long. First people in a long time to get a full up Custodes force dropped on them. Cypher, that scamp. What's he up to now? Watching the Nova-Terra situation fall apart, well at least it passes the time. And boy, this is the time of the Glorina to shine, all the old nightmares are being pulled out. Those Fallen are not very size, yes Cypher is up to shit, but unless you have a better plan, follow him and ask for details while getting out of the way of that nightmare coming at you though space. Speaking of all the Glorina getting pulled out, we get to see another person that has regrets, but is far too far gone to come back. Wow, Malicia is really making a name for herself if Khorn is sending that level of person out to arrange to drop a super-battleship on her. (beta note: "there were still tens of thousands starships – including thousands of ships – present in the Pavia System" that doesn't make sense) Wei Cao you are a massive troll, and you're just lucky Taylor's best friend was also a massive troll. Another Rogue Trader for the collection. (though I count 4, not 5) Ah, those two are so sweet together. Though the Skaven would like to protest, they have never done anything in moderation before and see no reason to start now. FOR MALAL, I MEAN FOR THE EMPEROR. OH GOD! NOT IN THE FACE!

What are Gabriel seths and commander Dante thoughts on weaver?

Boris Michenski

And so it’s done. First’s consequences of Commorragh destruction are dealt with. And what consequences! From what it appears, Nova Terra won’t survive even a month after the Mark. Lorgar want to launch his own Black Crusade – contrary to Abbadon he is not afraid of challenges. Wonder if he’ll even succeed to just launch it, or will assembled forces get spent on rat fighting. By the way, I would petition for less Scaven’s PoV - honestly, it’s painful to read… at least for me. Poor Calyx Expanse… not only is Malicia coming, but Conqueror as well… Glorianas are popping left and right in this story. Also glad to see, Three is not closer to present an united front than Four. Wonder what it’s all about planet for Golden Ants and how it’s related to Rashans… Plushies is a great move by the way, Glenn Chambers would approve. And what Brides of Emperor are even doing here? With Arthurian Sword non the less… is it Laisa'drakh, the Deception of Emotions that somehow ended there? Either way, there won't be Bolter Bitches get out!

So we still don't know why the Enterprise is 'inadequate'... damn.

Skaven feminism? Lotara Sarrin? I approve, please continue

Since it's a few thousands years for them to be born, probably nothing... ;)

Stormstar1995

I assume Taylor hasn’t been notified by the Isstvan Fleet about Rylanor when she talks to the Imperial Fists, as the Master of Rites is likely to know a lot about the Third Legions pre-Hersey traditions. Also why does Taylor think Genghis Khan was the Emperor considering the horrors Khan committed unless the Emperor was actually fighting a Chaos incursion, he would more likely be the one who ‘killed’ him, especially if he is actually Doombreed as many lore theorists suggest.

Dale

I find this chapter is PACKED. The ripples of Weaver's mad charge into the Dark City are well on their way to underlining that the Queen of Escalation truly FITS her. Allies and enemies alike are responding to the Hurricane force winds of change. I find the balance of this chapter to be filled with all sorts of information detailing the various threads currently running everywhere. I also have no doubt some 'interesting' things will come about as Taylor does her tour. After all, their absolute BEST chance to kill Weaver starts NOW. Her armies are exhausted, and she's not actively LOOKING for a fight. Note: while it's their BEST chance, I dare say most of those who try are going to find Taylor's not going to be an EASY target.

despite all horrors gengsi khans army wrought he brought many cultural changes: - enstablished freedom of religion - banished troture - outlawed slawery - left conquerd citys realtivly alone aslong they paid their "taxes" - enstablished universal law and writing system - enstablished system wich promoted people on their merit not birth - helped to enstablish silk road - spread usage of paper money

Anarchy is for the Squeak! Great chapter, love how you've created a scenario that naturally leads to the opportunity for someone besides the Black Legion to step up and act as the biggest threat Chaos can present to the Imperium for a little while. One of the frustrating things about GW writing for Chaos is that after the Heresy it feels like the only Chaos force that actually does anything major is in the form of Black Crusades with few notable exceptions. While I liked the Skaven scenes, mostly for how 'chaotic' they are with their scheming shenanigans, I'd imagine that too much time spent with their PoVs would get frustrating due to their speaking style, kind of like the frustration of reading a chapter full of Hagrid or Fleur speaking with an accent in a Harry Potter fanfic. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of the orks, hopefully with less grammar murder like this last warboss and more like our favourite mekboy who is generally easier to read.

Anonymous

Thx for your hard work!

Anonymous

I love the ork grammar, one of my favourite fan fictions is Silly but Killy, and it had me Thinking in Ork for days.

Antony444

This is the personal opinion of one Inquisitor, who was almost certainly born in the nobility of an autocratic despotic regime. He isn't going to sing the praises of democracy...

Antony444

Yes, it is the Deception of Emotions which landed on San Leor. What do you mean what are the Brides of the Emperor are doing here? This is a holy world, filthy heretic! BLAM!

Confused

Well that was exciting to read! And now I think I have a good idea what Operation Stalingrad will involve as well! What with Lorgar gathering his forces for a crusade and what-not. Though I'm sure knowing you they will only be one part of Operation Stalingrad and probably not even the focus to it!

Anonymous

So I've been reading for about 20 to 30 minutes when I looked up and realized that I wasn't even a tenth of the way through. And now I can't stop laughing at the Absurdity of it. Besides that it's another Fantastic chapter Anthony. Thank You

Forgottenone

Plushies.... poor fool he undermines the power of cute. They are going to get rich off those toys. It is not Laisa'drakh, it clearly is the sword in the stone! Rat people are doing rat things and yea good luck trying to launch a black crusade while having a rat infestation. I really did like how you showed the side effects of the side objectives.

Regan

Nice! I could have sworn I saw this chapter pop up on the 30th then disappear... weird.

Dominic

Another fantastic and epic-length chapter, still one of the best fanfics out there today, both for reliability of updates and sheer quality of storytelling.

averagejoe32

Stupid question, the high lords section mentions the "corpulence" of the Fabricator-General. How exactly does a member of the mechanius end up fat?

Mackenzie Buckle

interesting is weaver going to make a stop at San Leor? it's not that far from Pavia

Anonymous

But “corpulence” I think he means that the Fabricator-General is hitched up to so much machinery he is massive, not corpulence as in flesh

Anonymous

Recall Trazyn mentioning that Taylor's collection of the Swords of Vaul might match his own one day. Such sayings tend to be prophetic in this story, you just have to pay attention.

Antony444

You have only a slight idea of what Operation Stalingrad will involve, dear reader. It will be the next episode in the circle of escalation...

Antony444

Sometimes, I really think I made the Interludes too large...and then the later updates are of a similar size. Oops.

Antony444

Err...no. The only update I made near the 30th was an Harry Potter one.

Antony444

Yeah, the Emperor had his reasons for ordering all these objectives...all will have major consequences for this poor galaxy.

Anonymous

So whats going on with the Space Wolves? It seems like their reputation is almost the exact opposite than from Canon.

Anonymous

Reading the whole interlude was a joy as always. I can’t wait to see what kind of techno heresy Cawl is able to create with an STC for beer and exactly what kind of shenanigans he can concoct while on Nyx. I also wonder how much did Lorgar See of the goings on in the eye, because I for one foresee a lot more logistical setback than Lirgar is expecting with his plan to organise the next Black crusade without the help of Abadon.

Antony444

I think I will do a mini-update one day to warn readers that contrary to the rosy image the Wolves have of themselves, they are absolutely NOT popular inside the Imperium borders. Grimnar, ONE Chapter Master, is seen as a good guy. Bjorn is rather good, when he's awake. The rest of the Chapter delights on plenty of things which make the High Lords and the rest of the population cringe, including an astounding number of Codex violations, insults to the divine honour of the God-Emperor, massive amount of collateral damage Flesh Tearers-style, psyker hypocrisy, mutant-level gene-seed degeneracy, and that's just what comes at the top of my mind. There's a reason why in canon the Siege of the Fenris System the Space Wolves have no ally, and it's not because they told the Inquisition to play elsewhere.

Antony444

Thanks! And yeah, Lorgar will soon learn that telling his subordinates 'I want a Black Crusade!' and making sure said Black Crusade happens more or less on schedule are not the same things...

Albino87

So the Orks and Lorgar have decided to show up at Nyx. The question now is who get there first or are they going to crash into each other on they way. I can see Lorgar and his crusade enter the Nyx sector after have made a blood path there. They charge one of the planets in the Nyx Sector that have received allot of upgrades to there defences. Still it looks hopples for the defender, but when the Chaos troops start to land troops on the planet the Orks show up and it become a free for all. The defenders are going to be confused on what to fell. Happy that the Lorgar and his troops is stopped and give them breathing room or horrified in the numbers of Orks spore that will cover the planet and the time and resource it will take to exterminate them.

Nicholas

Thanks for the chapter. My favorite bit was watching the Skavan kill each other for "heresy" since "heresy" is basically a synonym for Anarchy in Thought!

Antony444

Minor correction: the Orks will go wherever Taylor is. They don't care a lot if it's Nyx, the Eye of Terror, Terra, or anywhere else in the galaxy. Their goal is simple: fight the greatest battle of legend (and maybe win it for the bragging rights). But their goal is war against Weaver, to prove that obviously, orks are the best when it comes to a proper scrap. WAAGH!

Anonymous

Kudos to Deathmistress Mikaelatch Shadowdaggder, Ultimate Pontifex-Anarchist Paskaquish Stormgash and Most Dominant High Admiral Kiditt Amberjaw. I kind of want a spin-off about the struggle for gender equality in Skaven society. It sounds absolutely hilarious and violent. Clan Greyzy. Love it. ‘Alicia Dominica’ sounds like an interesting character, is this a crossover with fate or just Arthurian Legend? Or was it a hoax to get out of her marriage? And let me guess... Cawl is going to McGuyver the Dionysus alcohol production STC into speeding up his heretechal super-astertes? I’m sure it would result in the Space Wolves being more accepting of them... “I hope for your sake you haven’t played with another Traitor Legion’s stock of gene-seed.” “Oh, no, I have not found the opportunity to analyse one.” Cawl is really walking the line on this one

Anonymous

One thing I found hilarious was in the same chapter the high lords decide to place a limit on the amount of space marine chapters Taylor can have in the Nyx sector and one of the next chapters to join are the 5000+ strong Black Templars. I realize that not all of the Templars will probably relocate to the Nyx sector

Anonymous

but they will definitely heavily commit to whatever campaign she wages due to Dorn's words. (Sorry about the split comment by the way)

Antony444

Cawl is saying nothing but the truth here...he's not played with one...he has played with each and every one of the lines, both Traitor and Loyalist.

Antony444

Yes, but the Black Templars are perpetually in Crusade, and even gathering in the kkind of strength they did at Pavia is truly exceptional. There will never be 1000 Space Marines of their Chapter at Nyx, unless there's a very big muster in preparation.

Anonymous

So this is heresy but I noticed some amusing similarities between the battle tactics of a few factions: Lorgar / Black Templars: We will gather a massive fleet and destroy the enemy in a single decisive engagement. Abaddon / Weaver: But have you considered logistics? Lorgar / Black Templars: Why would we need logistics, we have Faith! Abaddon / Weaver: ...

Anonymous

By the way apart from the space marines a lot less people reacted to Dorn‘s return than I expected. Did Taylor and the Inquisition decide to keep the fact a secret until Dorn rescues the Khan, or were oter people‘s reactions merely ommited?

Antony444

A lot of reactions were omitted, but the fact Dorn isn't here in person has dimmed a bit the fires of celebrations.

Anonymous

Why doesn’t Kratos take up chainsaw wood carving? Sounds up his alley.

Antony444

Laughed a lot after reading that comment...and now that I've stopped my laughter, I admit there's a fair core of truth in this...

Anonymous

The next epic fight - Taylor and Co. against a Necron Tomb World... when the Waagh to end all Waaghs attacks. The Chaos strikes. Then... ahem, anything else left? Tau don't exist, Dark Eldar don't exist, Eldar have better things to do (per the Angel of Extermination protocol). Oh, I know! Another C'tan shard is released. Honestly, there'll probably be more, otherwise it's not an escalation. Tyranid hive fleet would probably be the minimum necessary, just when they think they've won. Then I'd concede that it's a successful escalation. Ouch.

Antony444

Do you really expect me to tell you if you're right or wrong? MWAHAHA!

Bo

So Lorgar left his little bunker/palace/temple... where the hell is the Raven to kick his ass!?!? Unless Corax is waiting for Lorgar to gather an impressive force together and go ham on it, perhaps even leave a trail for the Skaven to follow to “brilliantly discover yes-yes!” and come and attack while he uses the distraction to have a... heart to fist-knives with his dear brother Lorgar. But yah Lorgar isn’t exactly a tactical or strategic genius, his presence will only lead to an escalation in response by the Imperium and if Angron can lose to a Space Wolves Great Company, and 109 Grey Knights. I imagine the shock and pain it’s going to be when Lorgar is facing against Custodes & Grey Knights armed with Aethergold.

Antony444

Corax may appear soon...or not, I suppose. The Primarch of the Word Bearers wasn't leaving his palace because his 'brother' was waiting outside. Corax is good, but there are entire Chapters worth of Astartes with super-heavy equipment outside, and even the master of infiltrators is not immortal. As for Angron, tactics and him makes twelve (grin). The problem to banish Angron from reality is to concentrate enough lore-adept troops and a sufficient amount of firepower, and be ready to write off the planet afterwards if you really have to, because the engagements can be really apocalyptic...

y

This story started slow, but after the first arc it basically convinced me to become a patron. I love how you don't write the Astartes as infallible. They are great warriors, but with few exceptions mediocre diplomats and administrators. The Imperium needs regular mortals to keep the whole show running. But mortals are easily corrupted, frail and short-sighted, especially without farsighted leadership. The Saint perfectly fills this gap. She's like the human face of the Golden Throne. If only she arrived during the Great Crusade. Actually I take that completely back, Taylor would probably set the galaxy on fire or something. Are you ever going to lampshade just how... productive Weaver is? She probably abuses her powers to do the work of ten thousand scribes. Is anyone ever going to point out just how ridiculously proficient she is at administrating an entire sector? And her multi-tasking doesn't have any limits too.. if her swarm clones weren't bordering on heretical, she'd probably hold multiple meetings at once!

Antony444

And I thank you for it! Ten thousand scribes is a large exaggeration. Taylor tends to abuse her powers to do the 'simple' paperwork when there are only basic things to do which require little of her attention. And she keeps a large staff to care about the rest. And even with this, this only deals with most of the administration of the system, not the Sector...

Vortiboy27

Will there be updates to Weaver Option this month or next month?

Antony444

Certainly, though I can't promise it will be a big one. I have to beta the Interlude first.

Anonymous

In your story, are the Sisters of Silence still split into remote isolated enclaves as in cannon? Or are they still active as part of the Ordo Psykana?

Antony444

Until recently they were split in isolated enclaves, but it is beginning to change, per the Emperor's orders.
