Chapter 72 of The odds were never in my favour is ready for beta-ing, I will likely post it tomorrow on ff.net.

I have not yet received back the corrected versions of the betas of the Weaver Option, so it's extremely likely I will begin a new (short) chapter of The End of Times by Sunday. Should the Interlude (corrected) be given back, I will naturally give it utmost priority. And once both things are done, it will be time to return to Interlude 2...

Oh, plenty of good things, including the first scene of the High Lords Council at Holy Terra, the Council of Eleven at Sicarus, and the Holy Synod of Ophelia.

Will there be any more battles Alexandra will take part in during her third year?

I have a question regarding Durmstrang's educational system and the competency of their students with respect to Igor Karkaroff's management of the school and his own competency. Earlier in the story, when you covered the first Arithmancy class at Hogwarts, Vector mentioned that classes equivalent to Arithmancy at Hogwarts (such as Spell Creation) are offered at Durmstrang, Beauxbatons, etc. And Lyudmila Romanov is... suitably terrifying for a future antagonist (and potential grudging enemy-of-Alexandra's-enemy, as I can't see her bowing to anyone as a sovereign herself... her pride would not allow it). Furthermore, she seems to have suitable minions at Durmstrang who are more skilled than most of what Hogwarts has to offer; I'm sorry to say but I can't really see Cedric Diggory doing too well even though he is a clear front-runner at Hogwarts... because it's Hogwarts. Anyway. My question is this: Is Karkaroff a more competent wizard and headmaster at Durmstrang than how he was presented in canon, or is the strength of the Durmstrang students relative to Hogwarts and the other schools more the result of the school's violent traditions and remaining competent professors forcing the students at Durmstrang through a crucible to burn away the weak and leave only the strong? Because with Voldemort as... pitiful a Dark Lord as Alexandra and the Exchequer believe him to be, I can't imagine Karkaroff was any sort of impressive. Then again, Bellatrix Lestrange is currently rampaging over Albion and gearing up to give Sirius and Dumbledore a VERY bad time... so... yeah. If you do not wish to answer the question at this time and leave it for future chapters, I understand, but it's been bothering me for a long time. Thank you for the chapter!

I don't intend to develop fully the answer until year 4, but to be quick, it's the latter. Karkaroff himself is using most of existing teachings and traditions which have been moulded into the Institute for centuries, and the best students of Durmstrang are forced to become more powerful year after year, while the average don't thrive. As a result, the few percent of boys and girls who will successfully complete all courses in the deep north are going to be far more dangerous than any academy's alumni save powerful Champions, but the ransom of this is the level of the rest of the student population is going to be below what a 'normal school' wants of its students.
