We hear all the time in anime where characters come to the conclusion that they need to walk their own path. Usually it's a positive thing, character looks into the sky, queue cherry blossoms. You know what I'm talking about. What hits different here is that Cid saying he walks his own path boils down to not giving a damn what society throws at him and straight up telling us I ain't a hero or villian. I'm just gonna do my thing. Given his power and shadow gardens connections/wealth, that's some legit scary, society changing stuff.
