So you found a gorgeous map and want to use it on Roll20? Here's how.

Step 1: Get a Map

  • First and foremost, you need a map!
  • Checkout my Map Details Sheet to hunt for your next map

Step 2: Create a Game and Launch it

  • The DM/GM running the game needs to create the game and then launch it

Step 3: Create a Page

  • At the top of the page you can click the 'Page  Toolbar' button to find the 'Create New Page' button along with any other pages you have.
  • This adds the new page with the page list at the top (create new page is part of that list)
  • If you click this page you will be taken to the Page
  • Hovering over the page, you can edit the name, duplicate the page, delete the page, and change the page settings.
  • You will want to change the page grid size to your map grid size. If you have a 30x30 map then change your width and height to 30.

Step 4: Upload the Map

  • When uploading a map you can choose one or several maps at a time
  • In the 'Art Library' tab select 'My Library' and 'Upload'.
  • Find the map/s you want and click to upload
  • The map will appear tiny and strange here..

  • Don't worry! Right click and go to 'Advanced' and then 'Set Dimensions'.
  • From here, change the Units grid size to your desired grid size.
  • Now drag your map to align with the canvas (it should snap when near the corners).
  • Finally, right click on your map and go to 'layer' then 'map layer' to ensure your map is on the map layer.

Step 5: Upload Multiple Variations of the Map (optional)

  • This option allows you to change the variation or phase of a map on the fly on the same page
  • To the right of the 'Art Library' tab you'll find the 'Collections' tab.
  • Scroll down to 'Rollable Tables' and choose '+Add'. Rename your desired Family map Title.
  • In the box, click on '+Add' and add each variant of the map that you want to import (must add each variation individually). Then click 'Save'.
  • Click on 'Token' next to your new table. A small map token will appear on your page (similar to the strange squished map form above)
  • Right-click on the token and hover over 'Advanced'. Click on 'Set Dimensions' and match the map size via grid size.
  • Now drag your map to align with the canvas (it should snap when near the corners).
  • Finally, right click on your map and go to 'layer' then 'map layer' to ensure your map is on the map layer.
  • To switch between the map variants on your page, right-click and choose 'Multi-Sided' then 'Choose Side'. You will have to choose visually, or based on the order you created the table.
