Hello friends! It is once again time for me to annoy you during my time off!

I gotta say, my health report is pretty good this time! I've been in a good mood for the past couple days and that's actually a pretty foreign sensation x'D

For the first week or so of my break, I was just adjusting and catching up with basic home chores that I'd fallen behind on. But now that I've spent a couple days off my computer, and spent more time reading, I've been feeling a sense of balance that I haven't grasped for a really long time :')

I HAVE to make more of an effort to get off my computer more, especially once I get back to work. The work may have been mandatory computer time, but the 4 hours of youtube bullshit and social media wasn't :/

Anyway! I think I'll split the remaining update into Dune update and Art update

DUNE UPDATE [ NO SPOILERS ]:

So, now that I'm like 1/3 into the book, I'm remembering flashbacks to the 80's film and really getting a new appreciation for the story. If I had to describe the book in one word it would be DENSE. The guy wrote it in the 60s but he was going for a kind of 'medieval' or maybe a shakespearian sort of way of talking, so that takes some getting used to at first.

But on top of that, he writes in such a DENSE way. Like, he's always packing more information into a sentence than someone straightforward. I feel like I actually have to infer extra information myself based on the way characters talk.

A good example would be a part when a character mentions the phrase 'native labor pool' when talking about a planet. When reading the sentence, I went 'Oh, he means slaves. Because he's a bad guy. And he's specifically the kind of bad guy that would use 'native labor pool' instead of 'slaves' because he doesn't think he's bad'.

I'm a slow reader anyway so it's been kind of cool to sort of take my time and figure out all the extra meanings he kept weaving into his work. It's being both a fun and inspirational experience!

Also I'm really into the Spacing Guild [ can't wait to hear more about them ] and Paul's dad. Legit, Duke Atreides was basically a side-character in the old movie but now that I'm reading the book and over 30, I'm kinda into the main character's dad LMAO he's such a passionate tactician :)

ANYWAY,,,,

ART UPDATE!

Some of you guys might have seen my bloody lawrence thing I posted:

and I figured I could at least post the raw, full-rez art here:

In case anyone wants those for whatever reason!

I used the same trick I learned earlier in Ren'Py to do the blood seeping effect! The ImageDissolve transition in Ren'Py is so powerful, it's just kind of hard to figure out using at first x'D And drawing the greyscale dissolve guide can be a little 'guess and check' heavy xD But it makes such a unique product at the end. I think it's worth it.

Speaking of lawrence, I also might as well dump a sketch I have no plan of finishing:

I just wanted to draw him with a face mask and box cutter, because I was inspired by a character introduced in season 3 of Aggretsuko x'D

I couldn't get the sketch to have the right vibe I wanted though so I ditched it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ cest la vie!

And that's about it for my life over the past week xD I have no idea what I'll do this week. And that's a very weird sensation LMAO

I hope you guys are all having some peace this October! Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity for rest, it's making a big difference!

Stay safe! <3
