You get what I mean though, right? It’s not really about the knowledge of whether or not there’s actually more of the franchise in existence somewhere, though that definitely CAN be a factor. Here, I’m just talking about how the human brain seeks out patterns and, upon finding them, gets used to their presence. When the brain expects something to be there, even something as simple as a “next episode” preview with that one familiar musical cue, the absence of that thing is sad. I kind of appreciate those rare occasions where the last episode of a series still throws a little post-credit moment as a kind of extra send off, just to keep the established rhythm of the show going right through to the end.
