Hey everyone! Looks like we'll be releasing both the regular and HD dreadlocks at the same time! Just wanted to show the progress being made on Roo's Dreadlocks (mostly because I'm kinda proud of the direction I went with it). Basically since there are two versions, and the key difference between them is the texturing on the hairstyles themselves (one is fairly straightfoward, while the HD one is braided), I decided to draw the various braids in the HD one by hand rather than use a brush.

I did this for a couple of reasons: one, it's a good challenge since I've never been great at braids; two, I always like to give the textures I make a very human look (even though they're cartoon-y) that feels like you can see the in-world logic behind them (so in this case, we can see the quirks and catches of braiding hair); three, I want people to feel like they can see themselves and maybe some of their own experiences in PotR and not feel like they were an afterthought.  I know I've seen a lot of critique on representation of dreadlocks in media, and there's a lot of shortcuts that can be made since, like, it takes a while to draw them fully. I hoped that by putting in the extra effort to research and draw them individually like this, I could hopefully make something that felt respectful and representative of the real-life effort it takes for this kind of hairstyle.

At least I hope that's how this appears! If I totally missed the mark, please tell me, for real. My goal has always been to show how diverse and cool people can be (from baseliners to xenotypes), and if this isn't it, I want to make it so it is!

No real life updates outside of that! Concept art is going to be quiet this week as I'm doing some game design planning/scripting instead. Would love to hear how others are doing in their new year!
