This OVA certainly resulted in even more questions, but it also showed us another side to the titans, and strongly hints at things that most likely will become important in the future. Even though she was only in this one episode, Ilse really made an impression on us.

Yea, always sad when people tell reactors to watch Ilse's Notebook before even starting Season 2, because the "WTF" moment in the first episode of S2 is just so crazy and shouldn't be missed

I mean, tbh, it's just exchanging one WTF moment for another. I watched Ilse's notebook first, before Season 2 came out, and it was a mental brick through my brain window :D

Mike has an incredible sense of smell, yeah. In S1, when Annie made her titan scream, Mike was the first to sense the incoming titans. He notified Erwin that the titans were coming into the forest from multiple directions, allowing Erwin to command the troops to intercept them before they got to Annie. (It was ultimately futile, of course.) And as you've just seen in the first episode of S2, he smelled the incoming titans before they even came into sight, allowing the recruits to evacuate early. Along with the incredible sense of smell, Mike was also the strongest soldier in the survey corps (before they recruited Levi) and Erwin's right-hand man. He was the one who was helping Erwin apprehend Levi in the "No Regrets" OVA. Mike was also among the very few elites who got informed of the true goal of the last expedition outside the walls of season 1. One scene of season 1 also showcased Mike's observation skills and intellect, where he deduced that there was an ulterior motive behind Erwin's plan before he shared it.

Interesting! I hadn't watched this OVA before, but it adds a lot of depth to some future episodes.
