Best ending to any show EVER!

Best reaction series ever, best show, best reactors, best everything, you got it right there. It was fantastic going through it with you and also the other commentors, I waited for the videos every week and it was great every time and I have loved all of my 2 episodes a week since the first episode. It was amazing and you have the best reaction channel and you're the best and everyone reading is the best too. I remember suggesting Avatar somewhere in your channel last year and saying you would be the best to react to it and now I know that I was right. Thanks Kat & Sonny and everyone commenting too :) If you had to give a top 3 characters who would be your picks? Mine would be Toph, Iroh and Roku. See you for the Korra videos ;)

Lets take a second to admire the music in this last one. Thank you guys for this amazing journey.

Aang staying true to himself is what allowed him to take Ozai’s bending away and not be destroyed as the Lion Turtle said! I clicked so fast on this one when I got the notification... As I once said on YouTube... your reactions are the closest I can get to watching the show for the first time again! So thank you for the great reactions and comments. I am sure you will discover more and more things if you watch it again someday. And I can’t wait for you to react to Korra if you do!

Austin D

Aw Kat! Haha thank you so much for watching this. My all-time favorite show. I honestly feel like it only gets better the more you watch it! Can't wait for Korra. It's a very different show. So as long as you go into it knowing it is not just Avatar again, I think you will really enjoy it :)

Great reactions guys, the ending speech Zuko gives always makes me emotional. Much love from Canada!

The writers were very smart to add an extra layer to the final episodes of whether Aang will compromise his principles/beliefs and kill Ozai or will he find another way. Because if you think about it Aang and Ozai have never met until their end battle. There’s no history or prior interactions to set up any kind of emotional stakes, the narrative driving force was mostly surface level. They made it very clear in this final episode that the Avatar State is basically a cheat code or an instant win maneuver. Even Ozai who was fully powered by the comet stood absolutely no chance once Aang went into the Avatar state. So by adding Aang’s inner conflict and turmoil about what he should do, it holds the viewer’s attention much more than if it was absent. Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you guys for being such amazing reactors to one of my favorite shows as well. You guys always had an open mind and discussed all the important values and lessons that this show had to offer. Whatever you guys choose to react to next, I look forward to it.

that callback to the swamp is a good point

Usually shows start with a bang and end with a whimper cough cough Game of Thrones and Dexter cough... But this show started with a bang and ended with a supernova. What a brilliant show!

It is so beautiful to see this show, which you were suggested to watch on a whim, have such a huge emotional impact, especially because you didn't discover it until later in life. Its been such a pleasure to rewatch with you all and I can't wait for Korra!

Nevik

Katara's win is cool and also takes advantage of Azula's mental state. A normal Azula probably realizes the situation but a broken Azula runs headstrong into a clear trap.

Great Reaction to this memorable series! You guys should rewatch this series with your kids in the future.

Nearly everyone: "You have to take his life. There's no other way.." Aang:" I took away his bending". Everyone did not see that coming. This show teach me that there is always another way even when all hope seems lost.

Thank you both for all the work put into reactions for this series. It has been a long one, I know coming home to do reactions after already long days, long periods of editing to meet your schedule you try to keep to, all of it, has been a lot of work, but I (and I'm sure all the viewers) really appreciate that you chose to do this. I will end by saying one comment on this ending. The ending scene in Iroh's tea shop always made me tear up (watching the show with you guys makes seeing it four times for me, I think). I think now I realize why it is so heartwarming and touches me so much. It has many elements (no pun intended) from the show, and references. Sokka painting a portrait to capture the snapshot in time of their joy is referencing him learning that from his master. A blind joke made by Toph, which everyone laughs at, both the Gaang, and all the new people to Toph blind jokes (Mai, Zuko, Iroh). Iroh is staying out the conversation, and is playing music for everyone to enjoy (like he doesn't need to be the center of attention and likes to be able to cheer up people). Sokka remarks at Momo "you think you could do better" like old buddies, but when they first met, Sokka literally wanted to capture, kill, and eat Momo. Zuko, who is now the ruler of the most powerful nation in the world, through all his adventures as a refugee, starving to the point of exhaustion and more, has the humility to serve hot tea to his friends in his Earth Nation normal clothes (contrast that with the narcissistic dressing and grooming of Azula before their Agni Kai). Mai feels comfortable poking fun at the portrait and isn't in the corner isolated from the group or anything. Appa is right outside the large door watching his friends. The big LOTR nod (my favorite movies) of Aang compared kind of to Frodo (maybe just me). Like yes, the hero survived, but like Frodo, he completed the journey with a lot of suffering, Zuko too. He had enormous responsibility, physical wounds (damn near death), and huge emotional scars (lost time, lost all his people, lost friends he made in the various nations, felt responsible for abandoning the world to Sozin/Azulon/Ozai, etc). At Zuko's coronation backstage, he is sitting on the floor looking somber wearing his people's ceremonial clothing. In the tea shop, everyone is having fun, joking around, and here he is, slightly smirking and walking outside to get some air (then Kitara goes out to comfort him). It was such a perfect scene to end on that referenced prior episodes, had LOTR vibes, and wrapped up with a view of who the characters are, but also, how they may be able to interact as friends moving forward.

Thank you Kat and Sonny for this journey!! You guys have been amazing to watch Avatar with and I would like to say you both are such beautiful people by the way you guys analyse each episode and what it means to the world.

I love your reactions. Kat I cried with you. I’m so proud of Aang and I love that he took Ozai’s bending. what an amazing scene!! It’s been such a journey to watch this beautiful show with you guys.

"I must find the Avatar and restore my honor!" - Nailed it!

Thank you for being my favorite reactors to my favorite show. Don't be too sad it's still great on every viewing. It's so subtle for a children's series because you get more out of it every time. You'll see so much foreshadowing, like the blue light at the beginning and end. The swamp, the man says it is a mystical place. I think of the swamp and the lion turtle as being part of the spirit world in the same way that Tui and La, the koi fish/moon and ocean spirit are. I loved all your comments on Aang's choice and the way he took his bending. People will argue and argue saying Aang should have killed him OR they say he should have ended it some other way by tricking him or something but I think this was perfect. It was about inner strength and his spirit being 'unbendable' is is far more fitting. Usually you get something where the bad guy falls off a cliff or their own minions attack them, I think they purposely did all those other options with Zhao and Chin, and Azula, and Long Feng, to basically use them up. Now it's time for something new.

Libby DVR

People will often repeat that the ending is a Duex Ex Machina like they repeat that the Eagles are a plot hole in Lord of the Rings, both are not correct. Frodo couldn't have flown the eagles because of the eye and the corrupting influence of the ring, frodo=splat. The Lion Turtle is also not a Duex Ex Machina, which means the hand of god or a tool of god, basically something unexpected and unexplained reaching in and saving the hero in the last second. It does NOT mean a 'convenient' solution. That would include the ending of almost any series, movie, or book, ever. There are two things needed for it not to be a Duex Ex Machina, 1. foreshadowing or precedence, and 2. challenge. It has to have some explanation or reason and it still has to be a challenge. You need to see Q in act 1 give Mr. Bond the gadget he uses to save himself in act 3, Lady Catherine De Bourgh is established as a meddlesome know it all in act 1, so when she conveniently reveals to Mr. Darcy that her feelings have changed it's precedence. Aang is shown having a spirit world connection all throughout, they hand him solutions all the time, how to talk to Roku, a vision that gives him the exact clue he needs to find Toph, and gives him energy bending. But it has to still be a challenge. Mr. Bond has to figure out how to use the gadget, Lizzy and Mr. Darcy still have to overcome their pride and confess their feelings, Aang still has to get to the temple and it's in the fire nation, still has to convince Toph to join him, has to get close enough to Ozai without being fire blasted and not have his own spirit corrupted. So if you read this, pass it on. It's NOT an overly convenient solution to Aang's problem. It's perfect.

I'm not crying you're crying!

Yes! From the 1st episode "The Boy in the iceberg" to becoming "Ävatar Aang" in the last episode, what a journey it was! This is easily the best written animation story in western animation history of all time... easily

Kat & Sonny if you are craving more of this show, I must encourage you to check out the four-part analysis series of ATLA by the channel "Weight of Cinema" on Youtube. You will absolutely adore them, and it will make you appreciate this show even further. I'd love if you reacted to it, but if not please watch it on your own time! Thank you so much for this reaction series guys. <3

"He's not just the Avatar, he's Aang" ::looks at title of episode, looks back, looks at title again, looks back again:: :o

I agree. I think there's some confusion about what the rock actually did which is why people may feel that way. In my opinion, him hitting the rock only activated the avatar state because it put him in extreme danger, hitting the same mark that almost killed him. I think the lion turtle had already realigned his chakras via energy bending, which we had already seen in the swamp and the guru. Aang took that and used it to do the opposite which was locking Ozai's chakras via energy bending which resulted in him not being able to bend.

And here we are at last. THE ... END. Of a story that was very much worth the telling. Yeah Kat . It's my absolute favorite to. Oh and I loved that you decided to go with the full intro for this last episode.

Anonymous

aside from the show itself, the next best thing to ever come out of atla is this reaction series. you guys are my absolute favorite reactors, and i watched so many already. thank you for deciding to do this. eventually i will rewatch these reactions again too. make it an annual thing 😅

Anonymous

Awh, that "I, I'm done" in the end is so relatable. My thoughts exactly everytime I finish ATLA. Just that feeling of emptiness. Thank you both for all your awesome reactions and hard work!

The timing on this amazing. With the election of my own country and hoping we can get back to peace and love and begin anew. First steps taken. I love your reaction and I love that you love a show that I love. That’s why I watch reactions because I am always wanting to introduce amazing greatness to people and add something to love to others lives and can’t seem to be able to do it here locally. I am glad and know you love it as much as me and I get to rewatch your reaction anytime I’d like and I will. Love you guys and welcome completely to Team Avatar!

I've watched ATLA about a million times now, the finally always get me in my feels. such a great ending.

Aang was also strong enough to stop the past avatars from controlling him to kill the firelord

Thank you so much for sharing this whole series with us. I don't think I've ever appreciated a reaction more than you guys. I sincerely loved how you guys address so much of the symbolism in the show. It enriches the experience by a lot. You guys have by far the most satisfying insight and reactions. Since you guys love symbolism too, here's a little nugget a lot of people miss. I loved the ending they did for Ty-lee. If you remember, during the beach episode, Ty-lee says the reason she joined the circus was because she was terrified of spending her rest of her life as part of a match set (her 6 sisters who look just like her). Not having her own personality. And here we are, at the end where she decides to join the Kyoshi Warriors. Joining a group who she really bonded with while no longer being worried at the idea of blending in a group. I personally think it's also a subtle way to tell the viewers that Ty-lee's gonna be more at peace with her family. The symbolism in this show is amazing.

Anonymous

There is a short comic titled "sisters" which adresses both Ty-Lee's relationship with her sisters and witht he Kyoshi Warrios. I am not fan of the artstyle, but the story is nice.

Preetkanwar Sandhu

I always like to point out that Aang's theme is the intro track, and Zuko's theme, which you get in all his fight scenes to some degree, but especially in the firebending masters episode, is the outro track.

Zuko: I know you must have mixed feelings about seeing me. But I want you to know, I am so, so, sorry, Uncle. I am so sorry and ashamed of what I did. I don't know how I can ever make it up to you. But I'll- ( Iroh starts hugging him) How can you forgive me so easily? I thought you would be furious with me. Iroh: I was never angry with you. I was sad because I was afraid you lost your way. Zuko: I did lose my way. Iroh: But you found it again. And you did it by yourself. And I am so happy you found your way here. Zuko: It wasn't that hard, Uncle. You have a pretty strong scent. *One of the best emotional moments in animation history* Sorry I just had to do it

From the start when i saw the emocional investment Kat got from the series and how she readed so well the points of it it made my heart so warm cuz i love this series so much and you could deffinitly see on her eyes that she felt the same way. Ive cried like a baby when i saw this last episode too, i went full meltdown. For me its also the best finale i could ever hoped for. About Zuko's mom, Ursa, we get the answer on comics. I came to watch all you guys ATLA reactions and discussions because of the Korra's videos. I have a feeling you gonna love it so much like i did. Thanks for this content, for sharing this moment and letting us enjoy with you guys (i certaintly did). <3

We finally got Sonny to tearbend! Your reaction videos to 'The Boys' kept popping into my feed. I kept skipping over them because I'd already watched so many reactions to that show. I finally gave in out of curiousity and I'm SOOOO glad I did. You're the 1st reactors to ATLA I've come across. Judging by the comments, you may be the best; certainly wouldn't surprise me. Your views, genuine reactions and emotions are the epitome of what I look for in good reactors. It gives me such a warm feeling to watch someone appreciate and fall in love with this show the way I did all those years ago. Thank you.
