And in this one we really get to see what kind of lessons this mysterious guru can bestow upon Aang. Great stuff! Only one more to go 😮

One of my fav episodes, if not my favorite. Also, I forget if you already brought this up in season 1, but did you know Bato is voiced by Richard McGonagle, who is the voice of Sully from Uncharted?

Man the scene when Aang see’s all the airbenders makes me cry every time. Love the Guru. Excited to see your thoughts on the finale.

That someone could watch that heart chakra scene and thing, 'yeah but Zuko's hotter Katara.' Sometimes I despair for humanity. The mentor dying is a cliche and with Mako passing it's no wonder you expect it. I imagine you already have filmed the end of the season. Iroh has one more lesson for Zuko though so we still need him. Well spotted Kat about Toph learning metal bending. It wasn't power that got Toph to metal bend. One of the cool things in the show is how they take character strengths and make them weaknesses and their weaknesses into strengths and you see that most in Toph. She has this huge weakness as a fighter being blind but she turns it into a strength. By necessity she learned seismic sense and because she had that she could teach herself metal bending. It wasn't just power it was smarts and resourcefulness.

It's absolutely a kids' show but who says we can't learn from or enjoy a kids' show if it's done right and this show is 100% done right.

Holy shit I had no idea! I love Sully, how did I miss it. Thanks for sharing that small tidbit.

It's a kid's show yes but all adults carry their childhoods with them throughout their lives. Stories that are really well crafted (like this one) can speak to us as children and continue to speak to us, sometimes with deeper meaning, as adults reflecting back on the children we once were (and in some ways still are).

Jook is porridge in Cantonese! When I was younger, I didn't really like the Guru episode - mostly because I found it boring. Watching it as an adult, I have come to appreciate it more. It's like Aang is going through therapy. The heart chakra always gets me.

I love how you guys analyse the show! I've been watching the show many times and every time I re-watched it, I learn something new or noticed things I didn't notice before. Everyone who put effort into this show really did an amazing job. The details.

Definitly one of my favorite episodes in Avatar.

This is like what the Bartender manga said: "The different impact you feel of the same experience shows how much you as a person have grown in between".
