We are entering "Battle of the Bulge" territory here, and the 101'st are pretty much caught between a rock and a hard place.. Hard to watch at times, but man was this an excellent hour of television!

As you can see, we are joined by a special guest in this one - Sonnys father, who has a good deal of insight when it comes to all of this. And the screen has also been moved slightly, so that it, and the subtitles, are not partially blocking one of us.

Enjoy!

When the American officer handed the German liaison the reply “Nuts!” The German was confused and asked “und vat does zis mean?”, the American replied “it means go fuck yourself” Next episode I’ll finally be able to tell my little anecdote about my connection to easy company. ps I’d hate to be a teenage Sonny getting reprimanded by his dad, he looks like a man not to be messed with!

I was in Washington DC many years ago when I visited the National Archives. Gifts that are given to the US President are donated to the National Archives. One of those items I saw was given to President Eisenhower from the city of Bastogne. It was a malachite box engraved with a fallen soldier and filled with the earth of Bastogne.

I literally refresh this page multiple times a day in hopes that the next Band of Brothers episode is up. Keep it coming guys! Love hearing your perspectives.

Great episode. Next one is tougher. For holding Bastogne, the whole 101st airborne divison was awarded a presidential citation.

Also...hopefully 7 comes up quickly.

World War II In December 1944, Renée Lemaire returned to Bastogne to visit her parents, and was trapped when the Germans launched its Ardennes offensive on December 16, 1944.[1] Along with nurse Augusta Chiwy,[3] she volunteered at an aid station for the American 20th Armored Infantry Battalion on December 21, 1944.[4] In a commendation request from Battalion Surgeon Dr. Jack T. Prior, Lemaire was described as "cheerfully accepted the Herculean task and worked without adequate rest or food...", that she "changed dressings, fed patients unable to feed themselves, gave out medications, bathed and made the patients more comfortable...", and "her very presence among those wounded men seem to be an inspiration to those whose morale had declined from prolonged suffering."[5] On December 24, 1944, around 8:30PM, Germans bombed the building where the aid station was located. According to a column in a Belgian newspaper, the aid station in the basement of the Sarma Store on rue de Neufchateau was demolished. Lemaire managed to evacuate six soldiers from the burning building, and died while she attempted to save a seventh wounded.[6] Dr. Prior recovered her remains, and brought them back to her parents wrapped in a white parachute.[7] She was a hero.

Most of the scences where filmed in a large hall the trees where made of paper and the snow is artifical but they rigged it with cooling systems so that the breath of the actors could be seen and they could give a real impression about freezing their ass off cause they really did.^^

Have to say this is my favorite episode of BoB i like the dynamic between Eugene Roe and Renee and how alot of the story get told only by body language and facial expression.

Really enjoyed this episode and this reaction. Sonny's observations are always spot-on and Sonny's father added compelling historical context. Kat's comments on Eugene's character journey were very insightful. It struck me how Eugene was depicted at the end of the episode using Renee's scarf to bandage the other medic's wound, and seeming to draw strength from that. It showed (I thought) that his desire to honor her memory had restored his resolve to endure the burden of tending to the wounded and dying, bringing him full circle.

Great reaction guys. Loved seeing Sonny's father and his knowledge of this battle. Bring him back for the rest of the series. Have him tell you about Combat Command B of the 10th armored Division or how were lightly armed airborne troops suddenly able to taken on tanks and beat them. In my opinion the next episode is the 2nd hardest of the series to watch. It'll get everyone's adrenaline going.

Sonny's dad is a great addition the reaction! It's so interesting to hear his input! :)

Your dad is a fountain of knowledge. Really enjoyed his insights.

Logan Serfass

Episode 7 is more about the psychological and the moral part. I think part 7 is the hardest episode to watch. Along with 6

Ian Forbes

Such wonderful insight from your father, Sonny. Totally agree that getting more of his knowledge about these events would be fantastic if possible.

Catherine LW

Really enjoyed the input from Sonny’s Dad, providing context and detail. I hope he appears in the rest of the reactions.
