Sorry if it feels like a cop-out to anybody, but I felt ending the story without revealing the outcome was the only fun way to do it. Actually showing the decision would have stripped it of its worth and the outcome you imagine is always going to be more fun than the outcome I chose. Does the scientist take it? Does the assistant? Do they share it?

Also, I wanted Ruth to get some payback against Sam for the conclusion to the recent bridal story. Ruth isn't a total pushover and Sam doesn't get to do whatever she pleases. Ruth needed a good way to push back at her for overstepping her bounds and depriving her of the end of the story is how you hit her where it hurts.
