I've decided to try a different approach for this animation involving something called "animation layers", which I might have mentioned before. What this means in essence to those who are familiar with photoshop layers is that you can add things on top of existing animation sequences without editing/destroying what is underneath. 

Without going into too much detail; which you can ask about in the comments if you're interested, this means I am able to much MUCH more easily add "flair" to the animation, things like head turns, exaggerated motions, facial expressions but also tiny details that would otherwise hopelessly complicate the animation timeline/process. At the expense of longer render times this will also allow me to move the camera around a lot more within the scene, which will hopefully add to the experience. I've kept it pretty subtle to start with, but I'll push it further for the final release.

These two camera angles are near-complete. Before I finalize them and create the background scene, props and final lights I will work on a new position for  these two characters. I have some fun ideas, but I'll have to try them out before I can commit.
