Hey guys!

I'll get right into the meat, pun intended!

The Meat

While working on "Deep drake" I thought the orca bull could use an update as far as his equipment was concerned.

This is the result (content warning: peen)

Shorter yet thicker, this'll ease animation somewhat, plus it just looks a whole of a lot better don't you think?

The Drake

I've spent the last two weeks going through various iterations of the updated drake's high-res sculpt/texture. It is not yet completed, but it is getting there. This is very high-res image, feel free to zoom in!

Drake update (content warning: Drake)

I would draw your attention to the close up of the head, where the old version presents a rather angled appearance in certain areas. That had to do with the way I had initially created the Drake and then gone on to export the textures responsible for visualizing the finer details on the model, such as the ridges on the nose, eyelids but especially the throat, which you can see had a faceted appearance. Now that I know how to avoid that, it won't be a problem in the future.

There is still work to do but the hardest part is over. The texture needs some fine-tuning, but the bulk of the remaining work will be creating all the deformers. The deformers are responsible for working the eyelids, slits, vents and bulging action. That'll be next!

In the meantime

I'll continue work on the two animations as well, "reporpoised" and "deep drake" both, with priority going to "reporpoised" for the moment. For which you can expect a proper preview with the next update.

That's it for now! If you want to chat or hang out, feel free to join our discord server. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave a comment below or send me a private message. Take care!

Hmm, why not long and thick for the orca tho ?

As far as proportions go I think this looks better than the original. It is also easier to animate without losing much in the way of utility, since most of the (longer) shaft was never visible to begin with, so this gives me more effective control over what is visible.
