Hey everyone,

We’ve been working on the School’s Dormitory enviro this month, so we thought we’d set the latest VR-ADV test#2  there, just to make things a bit more interesting, and to give people a teaser of what’s to come in the full game.

Feel free to explore, but please remember that the build is mostly an untextured environment with unfinished rooms ^-^ This is the first time we’ve released a playable environment in such early stages so please forgive any bugs / incompleteness in the environment, and hold your feedback / suggestions for the VR-ADV - which is in its final stages of completion!

Some specific things we want to mention that don’t reflect the final experience; walking down stairs in this build in VR is not slopey like usual, but steppy. This can be uncomfortable, we just haven’t got around to adding in slope shaped collisions yet. Some doors aren’t set correctly in their door frames, collisions aren't final (you may get stuck on some things) and some lighting is weird on furniture etc, and you can teleport onto some walls and the roof D: But hopefully you guys can see the potential in this enviro

We’ll be improving the non-VR interaction with furniture and stuff soon, right now non-VR players can open and close some doors with O, but unfortunately can’t interact with drawers, sliding doors or other furniture yet.

For VR players on the Rift and Vive, you can interact with physically simulated sliding doors, drawers, cupboards, wheely chairs, and traditional doors with your motion controllers. Interaction with doors and other things should feel much more polished, as we’ve spent some time improving and adding features and elements of realism to these things, to help with immersion.

We’ll be working more on the Dorms throughout the month, and we’ll post progress updates and builds when we hit development milestones. The Dormitory buildings make up the final buildings of the Takayama campus, so we’re hoping to soon have the entire campus explorable as one huge level, along with some story content samples now that we’re close to finalizing the text-system.

The build contains some improvements and community suggestions for the VR-ADV, including swipe-to-scroll for Vive users, the ability to click in the main text field to advance the text rather than having to click on the small “Next” Button, and some misc quality and bug improvements.

Please check out this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/vr-adv-test-up-15919362 for an ADV diagram, and for player controls, if you're new to Virtual Novel.

There are a few known issues left to fix for the VR-ADV - opening the settings menu near the ADV can cause some instability for example, and a few general quality things left to fix. If you notice any bugs or anything you particularly dislike or have trouble with, please let us know in the comments so that we can polish it further. We’ve noticed an intermittent problem when using the ADV on the Vive, which is that the text doesn’t automatically scroll to the bottom. We think we’ve fixed it, but please let us know if it occurs for you!

And..

Some non game related news, we’re going to be posting up the private Discord link occasionally for people who follow the project and who might want more information, but don’t want to join Patreon for whatever reason. Guests can ask us questions and chat to the community in the #guest channel.

Some builds from now on will be public and on a time-delayed release. This is a trial in an attempt to increase awareness of the project, to see if word-of-mouth is more effective if we have some demos / playable builds outside of a paywall! We hope Patrons understand and don't feel betrayed, we'll definitely have some Patreon only rewards when we have more to offer.

We'll also be posting up our Trello in a few days, for anyone interested to check out what's on the roadmap.

Build link will be up in a private post shortly, thanks and love devs : з
