17 - See, it's just like I said, right?

RAW

“...And so. A nominated request has come from the knight order for treatment.”

See?
No, I'm not being proud of myself. Please give me a break.

Just as I went back to the guild to accept the next quest, this happened.
The receptionist said things like, “The reward is high you know!”, or “Being nominated by the country isn’t something that happens often!” like it was a publicity stunt from MCs of shopping programs, but I’ve heard that kind of thing before.

I refuse it just in case.

“I'm very sorry, but treatment is impossible.”

“Eh?! What are you talking about! Josiah-san has a light element, right?”

“…My status. Shall I present it again? May I ask you to read what it says in the Job section?”

“I-it’s Magician.”

“Yes. I am not a healer. Therefore, no matter how hard I try or how ingenious I am, it is impossible to surpass their healing. It would be better to request at least a healer with a different element.”

To put it bluntly, this is a fact.
I can adjust the magic circle to give the best possible healing, but a healer's healing is usually of better quality and has less cost.
However, the employee did not back down even with this.

“But it's the [Light Element] after all! It should be better than the healing technique of other elements!!”

Haa... this is how it is. Because it's the [Light Element]. I'm sick and tired of people's images sticking only to the elements.
How on earth did this come to be? What are the Jobs for?
While holding my head, I reluctantly decided to accept the quest, but I declare to the receptionist.

“They probably want a healer to come. When I visit them, there's about a 99% chance they'll chase me away.”

“You don’t have to give such a low evaluation…”

“If I get chased away during this quest, please don't nominate me for any medical-related quests again. It would be a bother to the client as well.”

“Okay…”

And so, the next day.

“What the hell, you're not a healer! Don't mess with me!! Even though I had my hopes up when I heard that you have a light element...!”

See? (second time)

Sure enough, after listening to a scolding called repetitive complaint, I'm kicked out of the request destination, the knight order's quarters.
Even the self-assured receptionist reluctantly foisted a chore quest on me with a melancholic expression on her face, saying, “Please do this quest here.”

The reward is just enough to enjoy one meal of the plebeian dish that I ate yesterday.
If it’s like this, quitting the guild would make more money... Just like what I heard yesterday.
The only good thing about the chore quests is that they can be accepted solo, as they are chores in the true sense of the word without any risk whatsoever.

But... I was going to stay in this shitty guild.
There are several reasons.

One is food.
I heard from other commoner adventurers, that the amount of food――or rather, the ingredients, are prepared according to the number of adventurers in the commoner guild for two meals a day, in the morning and evening.
They say that they buy and enjoy their own luxury items such as alcohol.
Compared to not being able to afford lavish meals, getting to save 2 portions of food expenses is a substantial point.

Another is residence.
The guild's accommodation is a private room with a bath attached, even if it's worn out. In my case, I can put up a [Shield] as a crime prevention measure, so there's no problem.

Another is achievements.
This is still an official guild even if it’s rotten. They keep track of my achievements in one way or another.
The guild card has a structure similar to that of an IC card in the world I used to live in, and when you hold it over a recording device like a magic crystal, it can read and record a variety of information.
Of course it also includes guild achievements.

…There are ways to rewrite the information in a fraudulent way, but at least there is no trace of fraud on my guild card here, and the [Scan] has revealed that there is nothing wrong with the magic crystal.
That said, I won’t be complacent.

On top of not being able to move from the country right away, I have to leave behind some achievements for later, because if I don’t, when I join another guild, it will be regarded as an adventurer's blank, and I will be forced to retake the exam.

Lastly, there's the… state of affairs.
A newspaper posted on the notice board in the guild had an unbelievable article on its front page.

[A Empire’s Adventurer’s Guild failed an emergency quest!?]
[A stampede has occurred in an S-ranked dungeon! Extensive damage to C Principality.]
[The cause is A Empire’s new reforms?]

How would a dungeon investigation fail?
As long as you don't give a really terrible command, it's impossible for the members of that adventurer's guild to fail though…
It can’t be, maybe the person in charge from the government who didn't know the dungeon environment carelessly took command or something…
No, there's no way it’s like that.

Regardless, this major news will have an impact for neighboring countries.
The article states that B Republic will take the lead in dealing with the stampede (massive outbreak of monsters) that A Empire was unable to deal with.
Well, after A Empire, it is B Republic that attracts the most skilled adventurers.

However, the failure of this quest will naturally have a direct impact on the political situation... which makes it even more difficult to leisurely leave the country.

By the way.
You may be wondering, if I quit the guild, what would I do with food, clothing and shelter? It is possible to secure temporary housing with the country's immigration support.
However, it uses something that would be called a [Share House] in the world I used to live in.
…It only gives off a bad feeling about it, right?

Aah, right.
The low reward is not a problem.
To put it bluntly, A Empire's rewards were worse. Compared to there, this place pays more.*
I’ll have to live on a budget again, but it was still more comfortable than a life of chomping on hard bread.
