They just published their second collection written by Nobel Prize winners which includes Michael Kosterlitz on topological phase transitions (Nobel Prize in Physics, 2016) and Art McDonald on neutrinos (Nobel Prize in Physics, 2015).


Honey Bees Make Lives Difficult For Wild Bees

A new study using data from the Island of Montréal, Canada, has found that the increase of bee-keeping in urban areas is correlated with a decline in wild bee populations. A previous study had found that wild bee species are declining worldwide, and that part of the reason is the competition with honey bees. Paper here, press release here. AI Writes Music from Text

Researchers at Google have taught AI software to generate music that matches sentiments expressed in text. At the moment you cannot enter your own prompts, but they want to make the software available to the public in the near future. For now, you can listen to their examples here.

I've noticed fewer solitary bees, but I doubt that in my case that it's due to honey bees as I know of no one who has an apiary in our neighborhood. However, I will be looking into it as our city allows bee keeping and may have some data about how many people are. It's all about the data.
