Why is the 7900x3d having problems? It has the same 8 core 3d cache as the 7950x3d. That's why the 5600x and 5900x had good gaming performance - they had the same l3 cache as their higher core counterparts(5800x, 5950x). No 16mb chips were made so that's probably why no true desktop 4 core cpu (5400x) were made as they wouldn't want to waste a 32mb chip or make a cache chip just for a 4 cpu. A 5400X with 32mb l3 cache would have been outstanding at the time.

@Frank - probably because it has 2x6 core CCDs so for gaming it's more like a 7600x + cache than a 7700x.
