I usually avoid shows like these Game Awards things but a friend dragged me in to watch it... Felt like I was watching a 3 hour long advertisement, what's up with that?

Microsoft recently acquired several game studios including InXile, Obsidian, and Bethesda. What do you think this will mean for future games? Do you think we might see collaboration between them for a new Fallout game?

Hi Tom and Matty, what is your favourite game of 2021? I've been reading people raving about Disco Elysium - The Final Cut, do you either want to comment on this game?

Thanks Tom and hello to you & Matty! What do you think the ideal Fallout game would look like, and is it likely the next one is shaping up towards that image? Also, what're your thoughts on Fallout 76?

Hey Tom and matty, between jrpgs and wrpgs, which one you guys like more? I personally lean towards Japanese ones, I'm not sure why but whenever I play western ones I just don't feel like I have fun compared to Japanese ones.

Who would win in a fight: Doom guy or Master Chief?

Tick Dickler

SALUTATIONS, Tom and Matty! Have you gentlemen per chance seen the Jason Schreier article on Halos development? Xbox has had its strongest year in recent memory, but I have to admit, I’m getting more disillusioned: The fact Staten had to convince them to delay Halo, the way they ran 343, monetizing like a mobile game, as well as this continuous line stepping of doing something controversial, getting backlash, then backpedaling for kudos “listening to the community”. It just seems to me they have a few very good people in important roles who know what they’re doing, but still a healthy amount of people who don’t, as well as incompetent mandates from Microsoft. I also thought Tick Dickler was a good name, so what do I know? Do you gentlemen think their cadence going forward will match Sony’s? Are they still as pro consumer as some have claimed?

Hi Tom and Matty. Matty you’ve mentioned in the past that you’re not a “tech guy”. However I’m curious what someone like yourself who has used these new consoles for the past year has noticed and appreciated with the new hardware. Do you have some favorite features? I’m also curious what Tom thinks coming from a different background. Thanks.

I feel like a crotchety old man for what I’m about to ramble on about, but after watching the Game Awards last night I feel somewhat disillusioned. First off, the production value was incredible and there was a notable lack of cringe to my disappointment (with a few exceptions, thanks Jim Carrey). I think this is really an indication of how legitimate and mainstream of a medium gaming has become. It wasn’t long ago that I was made fun of for having a PS2 collection growing up, and people were still pointing to games as the source of all of societies issues. Conversely, I feel this same popularity and influx of money has ruined gaming for me. All AAA titles seem to be designed around a monetization system. While I’ve enjoyed the bit of time I’ve had with Halo Infinite, the cosmetics bother me. There’s no sense of progression anymore, as subconsciously I know someone can just buy their way out –just like real life. In Halo 3, when you saw someone with unique armor, you knew they had to grind for it, and that they would likely be a formidable opponent. The cosmetics told you something about the player, and possibly even invoked respect. This is all gone now, and as a result, I find myself only enjoying now dated games like Age of Empires II, Borderlands 2, and Civ 5. Not to mention the disgusting behavior brought on by this money and power…. Do you feel the best of the gaming industry is behind us? Did this feed into your (Matty) decision to start a retro-themed channel? It’s especially a bummer for me because the hardware is currently so exciting, but that’s most of what there is for me to be excited about in this industry. Also, I’ve been a viewer of Matty since the OG Skyrim days and was super excited to see two of my favorite creators doing a crossover episode. Thanks gents!
