Happy Thanksgiving & Black Friday everyone!

In a couple days we will begin recording part 1 & 2 of the end of year series.  Part 1 will be a look back at late 2019, and early-mid 2020.  Part 2 will look back at most of the year with Dawid Does Tech Stuff as a guest.  There will be heavy focus on the following subjects (don't take this as a complete list):

-RDNA 1 vs Turing Super Series

-Zen 2 Threadripper

-Ice Lake vs Zen+

-AMD Renoir

-Mattise 2 & the 3300X

-Early rumors of Zen 3, RDNA 2, Ampere, Tiger Lake, and more!

-And remember - Dawid will join us, so feel free to write messages directed at him!

Looking back over the past 12 months...what hardware releases and subject left an impression on you? Have you changed your minds on anything from last year to this one? What's something you've learned?  What do you want us to talk about?!

Put your thoughts, concerns, questions, and musings about this year (and late last year) below!  Be thoughtful, insightful, and use good grammar - And we just might get to your comment!

Why Tom, are you not supporting this great holiday that is Black Friday with a discount on patreon? And not last year either! This celebration of consumerism is in need of your support!

Should AMD, Intel and Nvidia be worried with the rise in popularity of Apple’s custom ARM processors?? I know they hardly compete right now in raw performance, but Apple locking on newer process nodes from TSMC sooner than everybody else and their custom co processors, I think it is only a matter of time before their ARM catches up in CPU performance and a bit more to catch up in mobile GPU. Plus the excellent battery life.

Hi Tom, when will RDNA2 be available on mobile, and do you think it will perform well? Is there a good chance it will crush Ampere since it's more power efficient, or might Ampere be more in the sweet spot of the efficiency curve in a laptop and therefore perform much better than expected? Would love to know your thoughts, thanks!

Hi Tom, I was making a parts list for my pc I'm going to build when navi 22 is out and I noticed that there is almost no price difference between a 2tb SSD and 2 1tb SSDs considering most recent motherboards have raid controllers and 2 m.2 slots. I feel like it would be a better idea to put 2 1tb SSDs in raid 0 because games will start to optimize for faster storage and there is no need for the durability of a 2tb SSD. I know you already said fast storage isn't very necessary yet, but sense it's the same price, I reason not to do it. Is there something I'm missing? Why aren't more people doing this?

I like to think that 2020 was a year that brought in a lot of members to the gaming community and more pc builders too. It's one of the only silver linings from the pandemic that I can think of.

What a year of competition is has been. Zen 2 vs Intel was fun (it was my first AMD CPU in a decade) but Zen 3 really provides folks with great competing CPU options. RDNA1 was good and has aged well against Turing but now we have RDNA2 and Ampere competing in the same space and it's great to see. There is unfortunate competition for availability right now but still, competition among big companies is great and we are in the midst of great competition.

Tigerlake could be a very good product for intel, could you speculate about renoire based laptop availability for the coming months and if tiger lake could be a good choice against amd apus,

I built my first pc this year and in the process I’ve become addicted to learning as much as possible about computer hardware. In hindsight I think I should’ve waited for AMD 5000 series but its been fun OC’ing this 10900k and I’m gonna hang onto this for awhile. It’s going to be interesting to see how much things change over the next few years. As always, thanks for the content. Lastly, do you think AMD can truly usurp Nvidia for the performance crown?

I’m really impressed with how integrated graphics have improved over the past year. Really glad to see the era of UHD 620 laptops coming to an end, now I can upgrade to pretty much any laptop and it will have better graphics than my 5 year old Probook’s discrete graphics.

GIven the slow pace of innovation, I had personally high demand for both Zen 3 and RDNA 2. Given normal seasonal demand, I can't help but think that launching major products in Q4 of any normal year is a bad idea (because supply is at its lowest until production fully ramps up), it creates insatiable "shortages" which allow for scalping and pricing to sustain far above MSRP (vs. launching closer to the middle of the year which gives more room to ramp up). With everything else going on, that obviously has compounded the problem. Ultimately, this will be the first time (when it happens) in a long time that I'm going all AMD and I'm quite looking forward to it. Also, I just want to say that this is my favorite channel and I really like the community here. Keep up the good work!

Hi Tom and Dawid! Hope you guys are doing well. Starting the year, did you guys anticipate such shortages in graphics cards at launch ? Relating to this, don't you guys think it's funny how buying a 2070S, 2060S or 5700 XT, at what seemed like a high price with the "COVID tax", at or even shortly after the start of the pandemic, just might have been the best decision one could have taken, despite most enthusiasts telling everyone over spring and summer to wait until RDNA2 and Ampere come out ? Not necessarily financially, but more in terms of the enjoyment such a purchase can provide over such a long period of time, even if it's not the latest and greatest? In my opinion, this is especially relevant, since most people can't get their hands on the newer cards because of supply chain slowdowns, scalpers, bots and forced scarcity, all of which make that extra time you have to enjoy your product if you bought it back then be even more worth it. I'm curious to know your guys' thoughts on this. Regards, Larry

Why have zen 2 parts been increasingly more expensive since April? In April 3600s were selling for $167 consistently, and now, on Black Friday, It can only be found for $220 if at all. However, the 8 core and up zen 2 chips are well below Msrp. Why do you think this is? Could it be the same reason that the 3300x has said “new product, coming soon” on b and h since may?

Hey Tom and Dawid, I got into the PC building scene later in the year, so Im gonna wait for part 2 to post questions. Just wanna say thanks for yall's content. It was a huge part of my lockdown viewing. Regards Jordan

Hi Tom and Dawid. Also a big fan of Dawid does Tech Stuff. Dawid, how do you come up with so many variations on low end tech? Also love many of your one liners. Are they on a teleprompter or do you come up with them on the spot?

Hello Dawid, Hello Tom. The last 2 years have been very exciting for hardware enthusiasts and this trend thankfully doesn't seem to stop. That said, most of the time it is very obvious what the strongest CPU's and graphics cards are and seeing people make builds out of them is, in my opinion, rather boring, which is one of the reasons why my favorite PC parts are almost never the best or most expensive ones. This is why I'd like to know which ones of the parts that have come out during the last 2 years are your favorites / intrigue you the most. For me those parts would be the RX 5700 and the Ryzen 5 3500X, as the 5700 was a rather cheap but strong card that was fun to overclock and the 3500X for being a "china only" CPU. I hope you're handling the pandemic fine! best wishes, Bernhard

Hi David and Tom, This question is regarding the release of new AMD products for the last quarter of this year 2020. Do you think it was possible for them to release the new products like the Zen 3 processors earlier so the shortage situation would be less bad due to the stacked product launches towards the end of the year. PS: Love and appreciate the work that you do regarding your analysis of the semiconductor industry as a whole. Regards, Aden
