I have a theory that AI in DLSS does not do much else other than act as a marketing tool. I think the performance uplift mostly comes not from machine learning, but from Nvidia spending an excessive amount of engineering hours to optimise a few games. This advertises not only their gaming products but the machine learning cards as well. If I am right by the time DLSS 2.0 works on every game, the image quality will be much worse. However by then people will just assume the image quality is good and no one will bother checking it for 100s of games.
