Soon we will record a couple of Die Shrinks discussing the HD 6900 series (we will touch on Fermi & the 6870 as well), and also the Original GTX Titan.

Any thoughts you had at the time of these product launches when you were around back then?  Any questions about these products due to not paying attention to these products almost a decade ago?

Put your Telegrams below - be specific, insightful, and use good grammar.  We look forward to talking about these products :).

Given that the 6900 series was already messy, as it was semi-pulled back from 32nm, do you believe that the move to VLIW4 was done because they planned to move to GCN, or was purely an attempt to maximize the performance per die of their previous VLIW5? I was around and watching computer hardware at the time, but I don't recall hearing anything about it being an inbetween, either during 6900, or GCN launches. [joke] Do either of you foresee woodscrew technology returning to high end GPUs? [/joke]

Perhaps my favourite thing about the 6900 series was the fact that a 6950 could (basically) turn into a 6970 with a simple BIOS patch.

I had a 6990hd bought it when space marine launched in 2011. And at the time was the fastest single slot card u could buy (albeit a dual gpu single slot) . Never understood the meme about can it run crisis because that card crushed crisis and had no idea about benchmarks etc back then was more interested in just playing games.

A great and legendary graphics series at it's time.
