Comic Report #120.2 - Holi-dazed (Patreon)

I'm home from holiday travel today and I've got some progress to share.  It's not quite as much as I'd have liked but, well, it's a holiday week, what can you do?  I am basically all clear to coast downhill into the end of this comic, though, so I'm looking to try to have the whole thing done before this time next week.  It's a thirty-day month, right?  I'll hit my mark, no sweat.

There's been two posts about the content of this page so I'm thinking about what I can say.  I expect this to paint up pretty quickly for two reasons: one is that the backgrounds are all framed to be really tight and simple.  There's no elaborate establishing shots like the previous page, it's mostly shots against the wall that has the window and the Xena poster on it, and then shots against the headboard of the bed.  I don't forecast there being any major background complications- I can usually tell ahead of time if something is going to be a pain if there's long depth of field, lots of 3D space to render or repetition in panels.  This page seems to be a welcome post-holiday jaunt, so that's past-me.

The other element that makes me feel like it'll be easy is, funny enough, the state of the characters on this page.  Clothing generally takes a bit of time to paint right, to get the pulls, creases and facets looking nice.  By comparison, skin is pretty easy to paint, it's smooth and slightly translucent so you can paint it in with fun light sources and reflected light in your shadow planes.  For reasons that are abundantly clear, I don't really need to worry about rendering clothing seams or creases or textures on this page.  Overall, things are looking pretty easy for me.

I've been supplementing my work with a bit of commission work lately, taking on some side jobs to make sure I'm stable.  We have one other big task we need to juggle with our other tasks, and that's the creation of a central website hub for all our other creative projects.  We're looking to get that ready to share for the new year, if you've been following our work for a while then you might know what to expect but there should be some fun treats on there as well.  There'll probably be more to say on that later, but for now I just wanted to let you know what was on the radar in addition to "more comics".
