In the Ortega apartment scene, step mentions seeing a newspaper with a headline that effected them a lot. What was that headline?

If you are talking about the newspaper they spotted back at the farm, the headline was something like "Former Marshal living it up on the town with their new girl/boyfriend." It had pictures of Ortega making out with a pretty man/woman and the article talked about how Ortega had moved on after resigning, and living their best life. A VERY curated lie/version of the truth, all meant to make Sidestep think that everyone had moved on and forgotten about them.

If mob boss Sidestep remained in their own body after crash, is it maybe possible to reveal in the future to their henchmen their identity as Re-gene/former hero?

Yes, there will be a lot of options for various reveals in book three.

Is Dr. Mortum aware Sidestep shares slight resemblance with Hollow Ground?

No, Mortum doesn't have a clue.

Is Sidestep secretly a human?

Nope, but Ortega might not agree with that assessment.

Did you get some of your inspiration of sidestep being a tool? From genetically altered plants where big corporations copyright genes.

Not gonna lie, Monsanto's assholery has influenced a lot of things going on at the Farm. So yes, yes I did.

If the puppet managed to convince Ortega that they are not a criminal, what does Ortega think of this?

Wouldn't be the first time someone got dragged into things they weren't a part of. Ortega is aware that sometimes their hunches are wrong, and they might be reluctant to change their mind, but they will. It's a messy situation, and they don't know exactly what's going on yet. Only that something clearly is.

Disregarding any other facts of the matter, how would Ortega feel if they found out that Sidestep introduced their foot to Hollow Ground's face?

That calls for a round of drinks. Too bad there were no pictures.

How does mortum know sidesteps real identity (at least their chosen name) despite that not being non rangers knowledge? /also spoilery so fully understand ignoring this one.

Dr. Mortum has contacts, and not all Rangers knows how to keep their mouths shut around people they trust. You might find out in book three (or put the pieces of the puzzle together in book two).

Feel free to ignore if too spoilery, but during the HG meeting, what was going through HG's mind when they allowed Sidestep to leave unharmed if Sidestep saw the aquarium memory?

Yeeeah that one is too spoilery, but they were as confused and shaken as Sidestep, probably more.

Is the story Hollow Ground can tell Sidestep how they chose their villain name true or a false?

So much bullshit.

What kind of relationship do the mob boss henchmen have with each other?

Pelayo and Ward used to work together, and are ex-friends with benefits, but there's still a spark there and things might happen. Nehal is everyone's adopted little sister. ZaZa is the odd man out so far, but he's getting better. So far they like each other (and Bo/Rosie), and Sidestep did take that into consideration when putting together their team.
