Hi everyone, I will try to make this message as short as possible... and I don't like getting serious, but there's a serious problem with the current character poll...

For anyone that isn't pledging for the $7 tier or more and can't see the post, I hold monthly polls where patrons can suggest and vote for characters and scenarios for the two monthly exclusive pictures

The problem here is that apparently there's a person creating multiple fake accounts and voting for only one or two options multiple times, pretty much guaranteeing that their favorite option will win. They made it pretty obvious and I think I know who's doing it but of course, I can't be 100% sure...

This is extremely selfish and absolutely unfair to everyone that pledges their hard-earned money every month to have a chance to have their suggestions voted and picked... it makes me very sad... not only that, but they have the nerve to refund all of the pledges on every account so that their votes count but they don't get charged... this is not a smart move because not only I can see that and I can block them, but it is against Patreon's policies to do that and if I report it, they will be banned instantly. They are very strict on that kind of stuff...

I might have a solution for this, but it would be very helpful if you guys could help me with this and maybe tell me if you have a better idea or if this would actually hurt you more than helping...

There is a way to activate an option to charge patrons up front... now, I'm not a big fan of doing this, but it's the best idea I could come up with... what this does is that every time someone creates a new account and want to pledge, Patreon will charge them up front and then again at the beginning of next month, like always... This way, anyone that wants to make a fake account, would have to pay for every single one of them and I know they are not going to do that...

This wouldn't affect patrons that pledge every single month, they will be charged at the beginning of each month, like always... but I know not everyone can do that. There are some patrons that can maybe pledge every once in a while and I wouldn't like them to be charged twice in a single month... then again, what you could do is paying up front, downloading all the content you want and then cancelling the pledge before the end of the month and pledging again next month. That way, you'd only be charged once every month, like always

If you guys think this is a good idea, I'll try to do it as soon as I can and maybe even deleting the poll and reposting it, so everyone has a fair chance... I'd need to do all this before the end of this month

Please, I'd really appreciate if you guys could let me know what you think, or if you have a better idea :)

I think that's a fair idea. For those of us that pay monthly and actualy want to support you this seems like a no brainer.

It sucks that one person ruins it for everyone and it may alienate some people away from your page, however it’s fair with what’s happened, if it keeps the page running then that’s what matters most.

Damn...that's a douche move. I would say the charging up front is a good idea, I've seen and pledged to accounts that have that in place. But I can't speak as someone who can't afford a monthly pledge, so I'll leave it up to them. I'm sorry this has been happening.

The question is, will the current poll be reset, or do we have to stick with the current votes?

wtfeather

Thanks :) I honestly don't have any experience charging up front here... How did it work for you? That would be very helpful to know :)

mmmmh that's a real problem man:( since i'm not always in this patreon and i can't afford to pledge every month it would probably affect me or other people like me... but i think in overrall is a good idea, but are you sure in that way that person will surely stop to do these things? can he just be banned with all of his fake accounts?

SirJusticeCode

I say do what ever you see as fair and what helps you the most. This is your patreon and these people are using loop holes to get what they want and it isn't fair.

wtfeather

It sucks... and yeah, exactly, that's my main concern now... I wouldn't want to do something that would affect you guys financially or even my current routine on here

p-a-pi

sorry that has happened. here's my take on all patreon polls in general. i wud only do 2 to 4 options for each poll. then when the poll ends, do them all in order from 1st to last over a few months time. that way some one doesn't feel like their fave idea is never chosen.

It works similarly to yours. You pick a tier, put in your info, it tells you it's going to charge you immediately then again the following month. You confirm and it charges right after. I'll be honest, I'm guilty of trying to pledge scam, and that shut me down quick. 😖 So it does work.

I can block all the accounts, but that wouldn't stop them from making new ones without me knowing... I know Patron can block an IP, but that depends on them and I don't know what the process is, so it's not guaranteed :( If I enabled the option to pay up front, this person would have to pay for every new account they made and that wouldn't be worth it... they would have to pay for at least 10 accounts to make a real difference, and even that wouldn't guarantee it... they would just be wasting time and a lot of money... they could just ask for a commission instead lol Anyway, doing that wouldn't affect you financially :) You could pledge on day 2, for example, Patreon would charge you right then and then you can delete your pledge before the end of the month and you repeat the process whenever you wish to pledge again :) It would only be a bit more annoying since it wouldn't be automatic ^^;

I believe (and I may be wrong about this, but...) that if you charge up-front, and someone decides to go ahead and pay, they get access for the remainder of that month. So I don't think people who don't sub monthly would actually be charged twice for a second poll. Again, I could be wrong here, but I'd be very surprised if that wasn't the case.

wtfeather

Thanks :) The problem with that is that people that pledge $7 would only get to vote every couple months, so that isn't fair to them either ^^; I can't change the monthly polls

One of the reasons I believe that is because I cancelled my subscription for another artist, but I'm still getting their art this month. I imagine that will end soon, but I'd already paid for April, so...

wtfeather

Thanks bud :) But I can't decide something like this without letting everyone know first and I also like to know what everyone thinks before making a big change like this

wtfeather

Thanks a lot! lol everyone makes mistakes, there's nothing wrong with it as long as we learn from them :)

wtfeather

You are absolutely right :) What I meant was... let's say that someone decides to pledge today. They'd have access for the remainder of this month and if they don't cancel the subscription before the end of the month, they would be charged again at the beginning of next month... so they'd be paying twice in just a week I don't know if it's automatic or if Patreon gives you the option to pledge today and cancel the subscription automatically before the end of the month, so you don't need to remember to do it yourself, that would be very useful

I think I see what you're saying. If someone wants to re-sub to you, but they already paid that month. I would very much doubt it charges again before the start of next period. I'd be happy to test this with you if you'd like. I can spare paying my subscription a couple of times.

SirJusticeCode

You do have a good point. I am for the idea you came up with about charging them basically twice for each account.

Anonymous

I am 100% on board with that idea. I was actually shocked when I joined Patreon and found that hardly anyone was doing that. I recall thinking "what would stop me from joining, downloading everything I want, then unsubscribe?" I never did it but I could easily see many people doing exactly that. So yeah I agree with this decision.

Derrick

I can't believe someone would do that. What a f***ing dirtball. People are so pathetic. What a loser. 😂🤣

John Thought

Sounds good to me. I plan on pledging for a long time so it dosnt effect me at all, and means my vote counts

Anonymous

theres nothing wrong with accepting the pledge up front! To be honest I would understand a bit more if they were paying multiple times for multiple votes, however they are legitimately refunding them? Thats just being a scumbag.
