Character Notes for Forty Pineapples (Patreon)

General Notes:

Most kids present are fifteen. A few are sixteen.

Non-natives: Alden, Finlay, Maricel, Jeffy, Winston. (Max is a two-culture kid.)

Middle school on Anesidora lasts through ninth grade. Provided their behavior and their powers don't give people cause for concern, students who are chosen as Avowed have a grace period of a few months before they have to transfer to an Avowed-only high school.

Your Affixation Year is pretty tumultuous even if you're a native and your selection comes exactly when you were expecting it. The process of getting the class you want can take months for high ranks--very stressful. And it's not uncommon for people to end up attending three different schools that year. Middle school, general Avowed high school, then finally a more competitive Avowed high school program they actually hoped to attend.

Alden Thorn - Wizard Rabbit

Astrid - In her debut appearance, she was dragged across the gym floor by Kon and Alden. She was very committed to her role as the victim, and Alden made note of her tongue ring because she was letting it hang out of her mouth in an attempt to look extra injured. Needs to find someone who has fought a moose. A-rank. Morph Brute.

Everly Kim - Kon's new girlfriend! Introed this chapter. Adjuster with ice spells. Rank unknown.

Finlay - An enthusiastic Scottish boy who has always dreamed of being a speedster superhero. His dream has come true down to the finest detail up to now. He's the only character who gave Alden an adrenaline rush during the combat assessment, and he remained undefeated all day despite the fact that the faculty try to arrange a serious loss for every student. S-rank. Speed Brute.

Haoyu Zhang-Demir - One of Alden's new roommates. He had a bad experience during the combat assessment, when the Wright who brought the pain wand was his first opponent. Friends with Lexi. Parents seem important. Has offered to care for Victor in the event of a sudden summoning. A-rank. Dura Brute. (Dura Brute is a known subclass, but not an official System classification, Haoyu is probably either a Stamina or Strength Brute who plans to focus on durability and endurance, plus talents available to both of those subtypes that will take advantage of or enhance those qualities.)

Heloísa - Last seen in heroes vs. villains game, where she cheerfully defeated at least two other Brutes, including a boy who had the same subclass as her. And, finally, Alden. She bounced off his umbrella, then hit it really hard with some rubble. She ended the game by elbowing the victim he was trying to save. It may or may not have been an accident, but she was on her way to a solid victory anyway. A-rank. Strength Brute.

Jeffy - Squeeze his hand. He dares you. Jeffy was last seen jumping in fountains, beating up a bathroom, and begging for half of Alden's outfit. Not that half. The other one. Plaid makes him look like a farmer. It seems likely that Jeffy made it through selection based mostly on his subclass, since even he admits his grades are bad. Which could be a problem, since he doesn't actually like his subclass. "Who wants to grow gills?" Aqua Brute. Rank unmentioned, but of course it's S. Jeffy the A-rank probably wouldn't have squeaked through admissions.

Jupiter - Won't someone please give her a plant? Her father may be an active duty hero, since he's got long lasting tinnitus from a fight with a Vocal Brute. She is currently covered in lipgloss and she very definitely is not telling everyone to be extra nice to Alden. Shaper of Life. Rank unstated.

Kon(stantin) Roberts - S rank Adjuster with a totally new skill and spell impression. Stole some of Alden's guacamole.  Extreme extrovert.

Lexi Roberts -- Kon's  less friendly older brother. Desires a room full of quiet people who won't bother him. Hasn't spoken to Lute Velra in a year, but thinks there is nothing weird about asking to live with him after that much of an extended radio silence. Friends with Haoyu. A-rank Meister of the Mind Writher

Max - He has one human parent and one superhuman parent, and he grew up spending holidays on Anesidora with his mom and the rest of the time in South Africa with his dad. Failed to enter Celena North on the first try and spent four months prepping for his second attempt. He chose to lean cutthroat and manipulative in his approach to winning fights and clearing out other B-rank threats, and it paid off.  B-rank Adjuster with Zonal Movement spells.

Mehdi - Before now, we've only seen him briefly at the meet and greet. All that was mentioned about him was that he was Kon's new roommate, he made fun of Lexi more than was necessary to Kon's slight annoyance, and he looks forward to being in the "party room" at the dorms. Stylish dresser, assumes everyone in intake is having a lot of fun and sex all the time, has tried to break in to join the party on numerous occasions. A-rank. Agility Brute.

Njeri - Newly introduced. Joining the ice hockey club on Monday. Hangs out with Astrid and Rebecca. Rank unstated. Shaper of Water.

Rebecca - Newly introduced. Blender-oriented. Seems to be friends with Astrid. Says she is a  Jumping (?) - Brute

Sanjay - Newly introduced. Curious about gut wounds.

Tuyet - A sweet but anxious-seeming girl who dislikes social conflict. She and Maricel get along, and they've decided to be roommates. S-rank Dart Meister.

Vandy - Only seen briefly, arguing about proper conduct for hero school applicants and seeming surprised other people didn't share her feelings on the matter. One of her friends called her "self-righteous." According to Jeffy, she called him a ruffian for jumping in the cafeteria fountain and said the school might need to replace him with someone better. S-rank Shaper of Sky.

Winston Reginald Heelfeather - Rode the bus with Alden and Maricel, was not particularly nice but not exactly hostile either. Looks like a surfer dude. Interested in selling sports drinks. Very jealous of Finlay. Inserts foot in mouth with superhuman speed. A-rank. Speed Brute.
