I think in the past Hiro learned about the bet between Senpai and his friends so he thought the other didn't really like him and that he was teased and laughed at. So that's why he didn't show up at the train station and that's why he still thinks Senpai is teasing him and that he made a bet with his assistant. That's what happend I guess.
