Josh woke up one day knowing it was his special day. He would finally achieve something grand in life. Something he enjoyed doing and was good at.

He would try his might in a surfing contest today. He practiced for it practically since he was a kid. Although when it came to this specific contest he practiced regularly each week since his last holidays.

He was athletic, charming and a skilled surfer. He wasn't a douche, but he knew what he was capable of. Finally a regional contest would give him a significant amount of renown and thrill.

His love interest Claudia would come too, he wanted to astound her. They met on the last surfing event, but it wasn't even a competition. She was lonely, but visibly intrigued by Josh's skills. After his demonstration of abilities, he talked to her seeing her gloomy face and as they talked she gradually opened up.

It was the start of a great friendship and that friendship was about to slowly bloom into something more, especially if Josh would succeed at the contest. He was a go-getter, he had to triumph.

And so as Josh woke up he quickly dashed through his morning routines. A healthy breakfast, hygiene and some routinely stretching. He planned to go to the beach long hours before the contest to practice, so he'd do his best during the contest.

Humming an upbeat tune he strolled to his car, getting his surfboard and his towel.

He and Claudia were supposed to meet at the beach, she'd come a few hours before the contest herself to spend time with Josh.

As he arrived the beach was quiet, it was early in the morning. The sun still hadn't risen fully, but Josh had all the light he needed as he notice Claudia running up to him from the bus station.

"Hi sweetie! It's your big day, I know you're gonna do good. I'm so happy I can be here with you today." Claudia chirped and gave Josh a kiss on the cheek.

Josh hugged her warmly. "Yoo, Claudia. Yeah, I'm all prepared for a little warm-up and a show for you before the grand finale. I'll win this contest for you honey, I swear." He stated proudly knowing his capabilities.

"Alright, I'll set up my spot and watch out for you. I know you'll do your best, please don't worry yourself too much. I really know you wanna impress me and I very much appreciate that, but I love you nonetheless. Please be careful at the training and the contest" Claudia looked at Josh seriously as she said that.

"Of couuurse, don't worry, I'll be fine. This is my big chance, I'll try to win nonetheless. Thank you so much for coming, but I gotta go prepare. We'll chat afterwards...!" Josh said as he gathered his equipment and headed to the shore. Claudia just shook her head hoping he'll be fine, surfing was dangerous in that part of the shore.

Josh ran enthusiastically towards the water readying his surfing board. He jumped into the water and energetically swam until he was far enough. The waves were strong, but Josh was stronger in will.

He gracefully jumped onto the board and without much effort reached the shore peacefully on the standard height waves. He felt like it was a great training, but he needed more. He waited for a bigger wave and when it was there he swam up to it.

He jumped onto his board and had way harder time keeping his balance, but he managed to and saw Claudia cheering which made him gain additional motivation and determination. He succeeded once more rather calmly reaching the shore.

He was a little bit exhausted because of his swimming and took a short break coming up to Claudia. "Didn't expect the last one to blow me so hard, but I managed." He stated proudly.

"Oh I saw that, good job, but please don't try your luck like that too extremely. Please, remember even though it's fun it can be dangerous..." Claudia went on again.

"Honey... I told you, I'll be fine, alright? I promise. Ooo, I gotta go, look at that one." Josh gestured towards the big oncoming wave, apparently the biggest one yet. Claudia reached out her hand as Josh turned around to dash in the wave's direction.

"... You promised. I trust you Josh and believe in you..." Claudia frowned looking at the big wave, but wanting to trust her partner as well she allowed him to go without arguing.

Josh smiled wide as he jumped into the water seeing the thrilling humongous wave ahead of him. He felt chills through his spine as he reached the wave and climbed onto his board with visible effort this time and barely in time. For the first time he felt unsure if it was a good idea, even though he didn't know why.

The wave pressed him closer to the shore, but was still far away with him. Until suddenly a tentative momentum appeared and to his own shocking surprise Josh failed to keep his balance. The huge wave washed over him as he got covered with sea.

Claudia immediately jumped up from her spot and run up to the shore. She was a bad swimmer, she would drown herself seeing more of the oncoming waves. She screamed in fear for his beloved one and immediately broke into a run to the closest lifeguard tower.

Meanwhile Josh gurgled under the overwhelming waves. He was a great swimmer, but as he lost his balance, all his confidence and perfection flushed as well. He felt like he was drowning.

He was fighting to get to the surface, if not for himself then for Claudia. Unluckily quick moments of glory in life could often turn into something morbid. He was losing the fight and air in his lungs as he started choking on the water.

Suddenly he noticed a bizarre light, barely because of his continuous fight. A bright blue light radiated from the depths of the sea and slowly swam up to him.

He heard gurgling and bubbles as he fought for his life, but as the light got closer to his shock he also heard a feminine voice hit his mind directly. "Greetings. I am sorry to state it so plainly, but you have about fifteen seconds to live... I can save you from drowning, but it comes at a price." The fragile feminine voice spoke in Josh's head as the blue wisp swam up to him.

Josh thought he'd faint, but he wanted to live. He didn't want to end up like this. After a quick moment of pondering, he decided whatever the price was it was worth it. "... Gllllhrlfod, yhralleles! Hrleleelp pleeeasrrlee!" He gurgled out, feeling like he was about to suffocate as he swallowed water by attempting to answer the mysterious spirit. His consciousness was fading, he was almost a goner.

"... Good... That's what I thought. I welcome you to my kingdom, you will strengthen it..." The wisp stated in a calm, but satisfied tone as it swam up to Josh. A single tendril of pure energy extended out of the wisp's orb-like body. It touched Josh's forehead as his eyes closed.

Just like that his consciousness faded to black almost immediately. He felt it was his end. The wisp's force was apparent on his forehead, but he lost all feeling in his body and felt like he died.

Just to suddenly resurface, the sensations of fresh coastal air immediately made him open his eyes. "Orghl... Oh... Oh God! I'm alive, she kept her word...! Claudia, oh lord, I need to show her I'm fine somehow!" Josh slowly came to his senses as he noticed the big waves were gone and the sea settled down.

He saw Claudia standing next to an empty lifeguard tower with her phone out. The lifeguards were gone, she was calling backup. She wanted to save him. "Claudiaaa! I'm here! I'm fine...!" Claudia noticed Josh as she glanced at the water once more. She felt a huge relief, she immediately rushed to the shore to greet him as he slowly swam up to her.

"I'm coming ho-horghrah...!" Josh yelled out to her, but his sentence was cut in half by a sudden intense pain radiating from his chest. He started thrashing in the water as he kept bending in pain. Claudia stopped as she looked in terror at the sudden occurrence. She yelled for help and quickly got her phone out to call a rescue team.

"What?! Oh no... My body, I feel like I'm on fireeeeeagfhhhh...!" Josh screamed out as he started swallowing water again, because of his agonising contortions.

"... I warned youuu, there is always a price to pay for cheating death... Don't fret, you'll join my domain quick enough, just let the changes take care of it all..." The wisp's voice hit his brain again out of nowhere as he endure painful changes all over his body.

"You! Fhgluck you! I won't give upghrl easily!" Josh boomed back at the wisp and immediately focused again on swimming back to the shore ignoring wisp's guidance. He swam with his renewed determination. No one would bargain his life, except Claudia - he thought as he clenched his teeth in pain, but swam towards Claudia with determination.

Even as he slowly felt his skin ache horribly all over his body as it roughened up and became more like a hide as grey scales started sprouting out of it. Josh groaned, slowly it was getting increasingly more difficult for him to swim as he felt like his torso was swelling and his limbs felt numb and stiff as something started happening to them.

"Cl-Claudiaaaaa! Call for help, pleaase! Somethi- Aghhhhfaghk!" Josh screamed out as he was unable to get back to the shore, even though he did his best. He felt his arms and legs completely stiffen and barely manage him on the water surface.

He cursed as he felt his ribcage slowly and painfully barreling out into a wider shape. "Grhhah! Nhooo... Not like this! Reverse the deal, just let me talk to herhrah!" Josh growled in pain as he felt his torso slowly swell out, stretching his new thick hide on his increasingly bigger body.

Claudia knew she would drown before reaching her partner halfway, she would be more of a problem than help. Therefore she was only able to stare in dread as something bizarre started happening to her lover.

"Where are the lifeguards?! Help him, I beg you! There's something... Wrong with him!" Claudia screamed out as she noticed Josh's skin was visibly grey now even from a distance.

Josh choked on water once more as he felt his torso bloat out and his innards change making him heave, but unable to vomit. He felt he was shifting.

Josh growled pitifully as his thickened body started losing body hair, until finally his scalp started to itch. He tried to touch it with his right hand, but was unable to move it as his sides were constricting his limb movement signaling the further changes. Josh just gurgled on water as he felt the hair from his head abandon him as it drifted away in clumps leaving him bald.

Slowly Josh's swimming shorts were getting very tight on his growing body. He felt like his upper legs widened and thickened to catch on with his torso. His swimming shorts had enough of it, they burst apart and drifted away from the poor man leaving him butt naked as his body altered further.

Now that his human confinements were gone, he slowly felt a bizarre sensation as his stiffened legs started fusing with each other into one appendage. "Ghrl nghrlonghrlo, please!" Josh groaned as his fusing flesh ached.

Soon enough he was left with one fleshy appendage, he immediately felt a jutting ache in his spine as it started lengthening and reaching the tip of his new appendage. He was forming a tail, he realised as he felt it alter in shape, erasing the remnants of his legs and forming a smooth tail connected to his torso.

Josh growled in pain as his torso became bullet-shaped completely and his tail was adequate to it now. Except for the remnants of his feet. He felt them get painfully stretched out into bizarre forms as they thinned out while at it becoming his huge vertical tail fin. While Josh was still able to, he managed to bend his neck enough to see how much his lower body changed.

He wished he haven't seen that, he looked like he was becoming some fish and a big one at that. "Arghllll. heeeerhlp!!! It hruurthgs!" He yelled out as he managed to get his head out of water, but it as getting increasingly hard with his increasingly more immobile limbs.

He cringed as he felt a nauseating sensation in his groin, what was left of it anyway. He felt a sickening sucking sensation as his genitals were being slowly pulled inside and he gulped as he felt them start to rearrange into their new counterparts. He felt horrible as he wasn't even able to check exactly what happened to them.

Josh winced as he felt his penis and balls shrivel into nothing, or so it felt. They were sucked into a forming slit on his smooth underbelly. He ignored the unwilling pleasure, being to defiant to give in. He felt so alien in his body, he was changing into something, but was he also changing genders?

Why was this happening to him? Was this the price that demonic wisp meant? A death would've been better than turning into some simple, predatory fish - Josh complained as he continuously tried to keep his head above the surface of the water. He swayed his strong grey tail and it was surprisingly helpful.

Josh grimaced as he felt his numb arms slowly contract. "Please! Somebody glhrlhhlllll... Help!" He gurgled as he sometimes was unable to keep his head above the water.

His girlfriend watched the scene unfold. She wished she'd be able to help Josh, but she was a horrible swimmer. She almost drowned once weeks ago, but she had enough of staying idle. She finally decided she didn't care about her life as much as his. She ran up to the water, pondered for a second, but as she glanced at Josh's struggling she just jumped into the salt water.

"Nhroooooo Claudia! Fhghruck!" Josh grunted as he felt his neck thicken and painfully force his head into a forward looking position. Josh felt immense pain, but was more horrified at Claudia coming over to help him. She knew she was unable to swim.

Josh grimaced as he felt small fins sprout from his leathery white underbelly. His lower body was entirely a streamlined shape. He wished he'd be able to turn his head back to see what he was becoming, but he only felt painful growth surges instead.

His body was entirely covered in a scaly hide. His smooth back was mostly greyish-blue, while his undersides were mostly white. Josh still didn't realise what he was becoming.

He didn't care either, he shut his eyes from the pain and slowly started maneuvering his body, as much as he was able to. He wanted to turn towards Claudia and push her back onto the shore.

Josh felt a tiny bit of relief as he realised he did it, he managed to turn around with his new physique. He started swaying his powerful tail and feeling the water hit his hydrodynamic fins. He saw a silhouette in the water ahead of him. As he swam he felt his arms painfully start to shrivel up and flatten, slowly shifting into his pectoral fins.

He wanted to scream as he choked on water while swimming and his arms slowly shrunk down into their new shapes. Finally his arms fully reconfigured into stiff fish fins. Josh wasn't able to see that, but felt the new alien sensations coming from his new fins.

Claudia barely kept herself on the water's surface. She did her best to swim ahead, she would sooner die than just stand idly and watch her friend drown. She wasn't even able to see clearly as she tried to swim forward.

Josh ignored his failing human body and swam at full speed in Claudia's direction. Until he suddenly got caught off guard by a massive agonising pain erupting from his thickened spine. "Ghrrhwlwrlhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!" He screamed out underwater as his shiny back was pierced by a growing dorsal fin.

He was unable to swim as his back spasmed in pain, he jolted with each growth spurt of his dorsal fin. The powerful fin ripped his leathery skin apart as it slowly finished growing into it's final intimidating form. Josh knew he was becoming some sort of wish, all because of that cruel wisp. He didn't know what he was becoming specifically and he didn't care much, what did it matter. He needed to save Claudia!

He thrashed in the water as he felt his bloated, but water adapted body move completely differently than his human one did making him somewhat confused.

He tried to sway his tail again, knowing it would help him swim, but he suddenly felt it. "Ghrrhrllblubrblrlblr...!" He felt like his leathery neck was slit by many knives. He felt like his internal organs just finished altering and it was time for his gills to take shape.

Josh wasn't able to swim as he started choking again, this time because of his body slowly adapting to the water. Josh felt a powerful pressure as his neck slowly started pulling his head further from his torso. In the meantime, his neck thickened and gained mass as the gills finished forming and slowly Josh felt that he was able to breathe again, but it felt strange to say the least.

He didn't even have time to command his body to finally reach his loved one as he felt a crushing pain hit him in the head. Josh felt as if someone attached a hook to his nose and was pulling it outwards with a Jeep. His nose pushed out slowly and agonisingly into a distinct snout.

His head compressed in many spots as it became smoother like the rest of his fish body. He wanted to scream out, but his vocal chords left him just as his gills formed some time ago.

Josh wriggled his alien body, just to resurface and let Claudia see his human visage last time. He managed to do so, his morphing face disallowed him to see Claudia - but she saw him.

Josh fallen into the water again feeling as his gills stung above the water, he was unable to resurface for longer whiles. He managed to gasp in morbid silence as his head continued to push out into a pointed snout, completely reforming the shape of his head.

He felt his brain shrink inside his head. He was horrified, why didn't he just drown before, why was he tortured with some grotesque transformation?

Josh opened his widening mouth as he felt his snout push his eyes to the sides of his altered head. The most painful part of the transformation was his face in general. He felt his eyes bulge out slightly as their pupils dilated and they became darker altogether. He felt the remnants of his nose melt down on his scaly snout, even his nostrils completely disappearing since he breathed through his new gills.

He felt his stretched mouth ache. No, his entire jaws throbbed in agony as they started widening and extending outwards, reshaping his last skull parts into those of a predatory animal. He felt his gums bleed as his human teeth abandoned him in his gaping maw, right after replaced by emerging serrated fangs.

He opened and closed his maw in anguish as it slowly finished forming along with it's contents. His face melted down entirely on his sharp head and his painful transformation was slowly ending as his body grown in surges some more. The pain lingered for a while as Josh tried to gather his thoughts.

He thrashed his body, unable to just shake his head as it was solidly connected to his torso now. He realised he just finished transforming. He felt his new fins, his bullet-shaped body and his tough hide. He realised he must have transformed into some big fish, but in a matter of milliseconds his attention came back to his girlfriend. He didn't care about his body, he had to save her.

Knowing a bit how to operate his body, he swished his tail in the right direction as he saw a silhouette in the water not that far from him. Now, fully hydrodynamical and with his strong muscles he swam up to Claudia in a matter of three seconds.

Claudia just felt the last remnants of her strength fail her and she slowly started descending into the water. Swallowing a lot of water with her head below the surface. "Screw me... Just please, make sure he's alive..." Claudia wanted to say, but only gurgled with water flowing freely into her open mouth. She closed her eyes accepting her fate.

Suddenly she felt a rough object hit her, before she gave up on her life fully. Her eyes darted open and she saw a massive great white shark push her to the shore. She yelped at first, but as she realised the shark didn't bite into her yet - it didn't mean to harm her.

"But... If the shark didn't eat her, what happened to Josh? The animal didn't act like a gorefiend." Claudia contemplated as she panted hard with her head above the surface of the water. She hugged the animal reassured it didn't want to hurt her and swam along with it. She saw the iconic dorsal fin of a shark cut the water right next to her. It all seemed so strange.

"Wait... Nonono... It couldn't... Be you Josh... Josh?!" Claudia yelled at the shark rescuing her. She suddenly felt the current stop hitting her. She held onto the shark as they were still in the deep water. She felt like the animal wanted to communicate with her, but was unable to with it's relatively simple anatomy.

She felt the shark try to shake it's front body. The sole fact it tried to answer her. "Oh God... Josh! I- How?! I will find doctors, they'll help you! I swear, there must be some way!" Claudia exclaimed as she watched shark Josh try to communicate with her with body movements. Now Josh lowered his body slightly as if he frowned and doubted there was any hope for him now.

Josh shook his streamlined frontal body again and just started transporting Claudia onto the shore as if he didn't want to trouble her with his problems.

They slowly reached the shore. As other beachgoers noticed a shark's fin above the water right next to a woman, they started panicking without realising what the scene portrayed in reality. Screams were heard as Claudia and Josh finally reached the shallow water and beach.

Claudia managed to stand up in the water and hugged Josh's rough body. Observing beachgoers almost fainted at the sight - the brightest of them understood that the shark wasn't trying to harm the woman. Josh opened his gaping maw filled with sharp fangs trying to make any sound. Instead he just looked frightening and weird acting so docile as a shark.

Suddenly before he was able to try another attempt, he and Claudia were broken out of their calm moods as suddenly sirens echoed through the beach.

Seconds after vehicles driven up to Claudia and Josh. On them armed were armed special forces that seemingly came here called by some panicked beachgoer. The armed personnel jumped off their vehicles in a rush and slowly approached the two.

"Get away from that fiend kid, right, now..." One of the masked men ordered calmly as if not to frighten Josh the shark, thinking he was just a simple animal.

"You don't understand, it's my boyfriend! Fuck sake, I know it's hard to believ-" Claudia was interrupted as one of the crew members fired a missile at Josh, startling him.

Josh looked at Claudia for a second pleadingly, before jumping into the deeper water to escape the armed men. Claudia jumped at the crew member who shot at Josh and started pounding him with fists. "You almost killed him, are you insane?! I tried to explain you that he's docile! I don't know how this happened, but it's my damn boyfriend, you deaf prick!" Claudia screamed at the man almost making him fall over. Instead the attacked crew member pushed Claudia with full force making her tumble back onto the sand.

"You're fuckin' nuts! It's a dumb beast, are you crazy?! We came here to eliminate it from the beach, people surf around here and-" The crew member explained in a shallow robot tone until Claudia stood up and punched him in the face.

"You people are all the same! Even if it would be a shark. You'd just straight up shoot it?! I have enough of you, get the fuck away from here. He's gone thanks to you, but I'll find him. I'll find Josh..." Claudia mumbled as she started crying as she realised what just happened. Her boyfriend got turned into a shark, how would she even find him now?

Meanwhile Josh swam as fast as his tail allowed him to. He still flexed his jaw as if he wanted to grimace in disgust at what he became. He wanted to cry at the loss of his girlfriend, but only thing he managed to do well now was to just swim and escape death from the hands of the deadly crew.

He stopped as he realised he strayed further than he wanted. He wanted to get back to Claudia, to his old life... He'd cry if he would be able to. He looked around him, he was in a dark and calm sea with a few schools of fish swimming by him. He tried to gather up his thoughts.

Then he felt that something was watching him. He turned around and only managed to see a tail of some creature dashing by him. He wanted to ask who was there, but he answered himself - only animals around him from now on...

Suddenly he felt something brushing against his pectoral fin. Then again and again until he finally noticed what creature started brushing against him... It was another great white shark.

It brushed against Josh again, this time it felt different. Somewhat more sensual? Josh cringed inside. Was the other shark... Oh no, was it a male? Josh remembered just now he might have transformed into a female shark himself. Josh immediately started swimming away from the male shark.

The male shark was insistent and way more shallow when it came to thoughts. It rubbed against Josh in bizarre ways, trying to catch his attention. Josh felt the rough surface of the male shark slowly start to grind against his underside.

"I said, NOOOO!" Josh growled in his mind as he turned at the male shark and exposed his sharp fangs. The male shark retreated a bit, visibly consternated and surprised at the denial. It started to open it's maw, but saw Josh's determination and gave up, quickly swimming away from him.

"Yes! Alright, not bad. Still, gotta get back to Claudia, what if she'll come looking for me?!" Josh pondered for a second, before again breaking into a wild rush, this time again in the direction of the beach.

As he said before. Nobody would guide his life for him. He hoped he'd get his human body back, more importantly he wanted to get back to his worried girlfriend again, for better or for worse. He'd fight for his fate...
