Doodles From Across the Sea (Patreon)

I lived in Israel for a few years, from 1998 to 2002. It was a very meaningful turning point in my life, because I had just wrapped up the old "furry Empires" two years earlier and started college. While I was there, I did a number of comics and doodles. Above: Hafiz al-Assad, the former "President" (Dictator) of Syria before he died, confronts God with the notion that "According to MY maps, you're in my seat!"
I was asked to submit an entry to the University Ben-Gurion's Overseas Student Program, of which I was a participant, for a t-shirt design. Here was my winning entry.
Here was another one I did. I made the Bedouin a cat because Israel is full of stray, feral cats. When the British controlled the area after World War One as the "Palestinian Mandate" of the League of Nations, there was a massive rat and mice infestation there, spreading disease. So the British cleared out every cat in the animal shelters back in Britain, and set them loose in Israel. So now there are few mice, but lots of cats.
Yasser Arafat always asking for a little bit more. In truth I actually feel that the Palestinians have a good case, but I also recognize that they handle it badly, in my opinion. One Israeli commentator and politicians said that "The Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity".
Meal cards for a potluck dinner party we had in the student dorms; we had of course vegetarians and people who kept kosher, so when we spread out all the food I made sure it was lumped into categories and labeled with these.
More later!
