Pixar seems to be really good at sequels!!! I loved seeing more characters added to the gang and seeing how fleshed out Woody and Jesse were. This was a banger! Enjoy :)

omgggg. I was 20 minutes into Toy Story 2 and just got the notification you posted this! Perfect timing! This one will always hold a special place for me among the others as it came out when I was little (and I think it's the best one lol) 🩵

My favorite behind-the-scenes story about this movie is incredible: Toy Story 2 almost ceased to exist altogether during production in 1998. Due to an animator's error while clearing some files, 90% of the film that had been completed over 2 years was completely erased. An even more crushing blow was the discovery that their archival backups hadn't worked for about a month. But lo and behold, miracle of miracles---the film was saved when a technical director, who had been remote working as a new parent, revealed she had a backup copy of the film on her home computer. To quote one of the production members: "We got the machine, wrapped it in blankets and pillows, and put seatbelts all across it in the back seat--" (talk about a stressful car ride!) "---four or five of us carried it in like you would an Egyptian pharaoh, boot it up, machine turns on, and there's the movie!" Pixar recovered nearly all of what was lost, and so the movie was saved! That savior employee was Galyn Sussman. Thank goodness for that hardworking mama who took her work home!

I Love this movie! Jesse is my favorite character 💖🫶🏽 Monsters inc and Ratatouille were the two movies released in between the first and second Toy Story

KaijinGarou

Jessie gives Phoebe vibes and after watching Friends like fifty times, I still don't know if Phoebe is an awesome close character or a villain either 🤣

Geothro

lol! They made two versions of Buzz's speech!? The US version has the American flag waving behind him with the national anthem instead of the globe and fireworks

Teej

I’m NEVER prepared for the When She Loved Me song/scene. Breaks my heart every single time. Sarah McLachlan’s voice is gorgeous on it.

Teej

I remember I had to sing that song for a cabaret once, and the tears were falling down my face for half of it. Goodness!

This movie is better than I remembered. And it's objectively funnier than the first but I think the original is still my favorite. It was so creative at the time. I even had my own Buzz and Woody when I was a kid.

Brian Matthews

Your correllation of Woody to Frodo, and Buzz to Sam is genius!!! This movie is just a more fleshed out story, and characters...it simply is Pixar getting better at what it does. Toy Story one was the initial great idea, and this one was the obvious improvement. Great Job, Oscar...love the animated movies you watch, NEVER lose you ability to still get in touch with you inner child. I LOVE IT! Brian

Raquel Perodin

Oh right! I see, I googled it and that’s what came up up lol. Should have double checked.

JT

I love this movie so much. Growing up this would be the movie I would have playing 24/7 and I still watch it all the time now. Toy Story is just pure comfort! Can’t wait for your reactions to the next films! There’s also two specials that take place in between 3 and 4 if you want to watch those too!

Anna H

I'm actually seeing Monsters Inc. as released in 2001; Toy Story 2 in '99 :)

Michael Short

fun fact about Toy Story 2. one of the employees of pixar accidentally deleted the project from their server prior to release. it was only saved because one other employee had a copy on his home computer (against company policy lol)

Katelyn Halt

Yes please watch Bug's life it was my favorite as a kid!!!

Rhetorical Thrill

That's why it looked so odd to me 🤣 And then it transitioned into the old thing they'd put on the tv at like 2 am when all the stations went dark for the night!

Rhetorical Thrill

For me, the second movie of a great trilogy is usually my favorite - the setting and characters are established, we can jump right in, it's higher stakes, and we don't have to say goodbye until the next movie! So yes, this is my favorite Toy Story. Of course, there was eventually a 4th, and while I don't think it's terrible, the third is a perfect ending and it really didn't have a good reason to go on.

Diana Woods

Wait... Woody was a ginger? Is this why I find gingers so attractive? My doll Woody had dark brown hair... meh, it is what it is 🤷‍♀️

Diana Woods

We can't protect you now... Also, Lion King 2!

Diana Woods

Sorry, Spudnick?

JT

Fun Fact: When they were in the process of making Toy Story 2 someone accidentally clicked the wrong button while working and they deleted the entire movie off of the Pixar servers. Luckily, a woman was away on maternity leave and she had a copy of the movie with her at home and they were able to retrieve it and save the movie!!! I absolutely love the addition of Jessie and Bullseye! And the romance between Jessie and Buzz is so cute. I can't wait for you to see the next installments!

Big Bob

You think this was kind of Horrifying in the beginning? Wait til the third Movie :)

Xen

Looking forward to you watching 3 and 4 (3 is god-tier btw), but are you also gonna watch the Buzz Lightyear movie?

James McCarthy

Glad you enjoyed. There are two Buzz Lightyear of Star Command films btw. An original animated one which is very good and acted as both a standalone story but also a set up for an animated series which was fun. Then there is a new animated(more modern CGI) one pixar made which is alright. Recommend trying them both (:

Nate Terry

LOL, When Buzz gave the uplifting speech in the bushes that transitions to the TV in Al's apartment room playing the national anthem, your version on patreon had an image on the TV of the world spinning during the music...but my version in the U.S. had the American flag playing. I assume it's because you are in a different country...I just thought that was a weird distinction that Disney made for different countries....

Great reaction! I love this movie, it’s my favourite in the tetralogy. Hanks and Allen (Woody and Buzz) were shown the movie before it premiered. After ”When Somebody Loved Me” they looked over at each other with tears in their eyes, both relating it to their own children growing up and becoming independent from them. That always brings an extra layer to the scene for me. Hanks also tells a really sweet story about meeting a woman and her daughter, the little girl having a Woody doll. IIRC the woman asked if he would sign the doll, which he did, but then he felt really bad because the girl (who had no idea who he was) looked at him like he had defiled her precious doll. She might appreciate it now that she’s grown up, though. 😉 Btw there’s a fan theory that Emily is actually Andy’s mom, and that she got him the Woody doll out of nostalgia.

Mariia K

I don't get one thing - how mom can take toys without her kid's permission?? If I was in this situation, I would think my parents do not appreciate my choice and my will. You come home and your toy is missing 🤨

Late comment (I'm catching up as a new Patreon). Professional restoration will usually raise a collectible's value. It's when people think they can do it themselves that it will decrease the value, sometimes even tanking it completely. I'm willing to bet the Cleaner is a dedicated professional. He has the tools and the knowledge, and look at his respectful, methodical approach.
