Outlander 5X9: Monsters and Heroes (Patreon)

This was a really good episode, but it was so hard to watch. Ugh. Jamie being weak and helpless was torture.

On the plus side, Brianna got to be an engineer again (I had no idea she even was an engineer, but she and Claire seem happy about it, so I'm in). I had no idea that the reason we were pissed about that dude smashing the needle with the penicillin was because we were worried about the syringe! I assumed it was about the penicillin, but I couldn't figure out how to make that make sense.

So Jamie is basically convinced he's going to die the whole episode. Especially when it seems to come down to saving his life or his leg. He's refusing to allow Claire to amputate. He makes her promise that no matter what happens, she'll let him die before she takes his leg. Eventually Ian comes in and calls him a coward. Not long after he changes his mind and tells Claire that she can amputate if necessary.

Right as they are about to, Brianna rushes in with the snake fang contraption and saves the day, allowing Claire to get penicillin directly into the infected bite.

Also, it feels like Jamie and Roger have made some progress this episode. When he thought he was dying, Jamie tried to make Roger promised to kill Bonnet in case he didn't get the chase. Roger balked claiming he didn't think he could take a man's life, no matter how much be deserved it. However, while he doesn't go back on that, he does claim that he wants to be there when Jamie kills him.

And Marsali had the baby! It's a girl! And she thinks of Claire like a mom. I love it (and Marsali) so much!
