I just finished rewatching all of Cowboy Bebop last night, and I shouldn't have watched the last episode. Just should've just left it go. It ends on such a sad note, and left me a little down today. I LOVE Cowboy Bebop, probably my favorite anime next to FLCL, but man, why Spike why???!!!!!

I just love Faye. I love that she's kind of a heartless bitch who's also completely not. I can't say I'm anything like her or that I would ever like to be like her. Her character is barely redeemable, and yet I love her. It's the funniest thing. Bebop is so good at that-- all the characters are so real.

Anyway, decided to spend my night remaking my Faye costume which I'll be wearing at AX. I literally ripped up my old costume and used the pieces as pattern pieces for my new one. My old costume looked like this (photo by PhotosNXS):

You can't really tell in any of the photos, but this costume was ATROCIOUS. Looking at it now, I don't know WHAT I was thinking. I used a non-stretch bottomweight as lining for a stretch PVC on the outside. All the seams were bunchy and ugly, and pretty much everything about the top and bottom was embarrassingly bad. I remember realizing, though, that I was only wearing it for photos, and the details wouldn't be noticeable.

The wig was also NOT what I planned. I had ordered a wig from Arda Wigs, but it didn't arrive in time, so I took a crap wig I had lying around, dyed it with iPoly purple, and made do.

My NEW costume, seen above, will practically look the same but BETTER, since people will actually see this one in person and up close, and I just don't want to be embarrassed of my work! It's made from CosplayFabric.com's (Yaya Han's fabric line at Joann's) white ultrapreme which I dyed yellow with iPoly Yellow. I cut out each piece and dyed them separately twice-- the first time was for five minutes, and when I realized that one piece was brighter and yellower than the rest after leaving it in for an extra few minutes on accident, I dyed the rest of the pieces for another three minutes to match. I cut out and dyed each piece of the suit separately because I was afraid if I dyed the whole sheet of uncut fabric, it would have weird creases where the pleather-y-ness would stick together. I moved the fabric around constantly in the dye bath to make sure these creases didn't happen even with the smaller pieces. Up close you can tell I dyed the fabric, because the yellow is inconsistent in some areas, but it's not much of a problem!

One part I find challenging/silly about Faye's costume is that I purposely needed to make it not fit me correctly:

Soooooo I made the pants a little too big for me. Just kiiiiiiinda weird.
