The live action was a real swing and a miss on Arlong Park. They cut out Usopp's entire character arc. His best moments. They changed the dynamic between Nojiko and Nami which really lessened the emotional impact of what is to come. I don't want to get too much further into it as I don't want to spoil it, but there are few surprises still come to in the anime version for you guys. This one hits different from everything that came before in the East Blue Saga.

In episode 31 we get the first hints that Nami might not be as "greedy" as we thought, at least in a conventional sense. As motivated as she is by money, we see her easily give that kid some cash to keep him safe and away from Arlong. For Nami, money isn't about greed; it's about power and security. To her, having money means having the means to protect the things she loves. Beyond that, her character is heavily associated with tangerines. Tangerines being a symbol of wealth in Japanese culture. She is more concerned with the symbolic wealth of family, friendship, and belonging than material wealth.

A fun fact for you. The Seven Warlords were not in Oda’s original plan for the story, but once he had the idea he felt he had to add them, they were too cool. He also said they are partially responsible for why the story got so long, he wanted to make sure he included them all

Yeah, we see more differences between the live action and the anime/manga. For one thing, Nami saw the fight between Zoro and Mihawk in the live action, but not in the anime/manga as she left before the fight (that's why she was wondering about Zoro's bandages here). Yeah, Nojiko not knowing about Nami's plans in the live action made no sense to me whatsoever. That was one of my least favorite changes the live action made. I look forward to your reactions to the rest of the Arlong Park arc 😁😁😁

Zoro testing Nami by jumping into the water is unique to the anime/manga. If you already like zoro, this arc will make you like him even more. His test is the first real sign of an emotional intelligence that other crew members lack, and why he makes a perfect vice-captain to Luffy

i normally dont do this, but this info is wrong, please dont listen to it. 7 warlords were always intended. Mattf315 is mistaken.

I don’t mean to get in an argument, but this is where I got the info from: https://japantoday.com/category/entertainment/%27one-piece%27-author-claims-a-certain-seven-villains-extended-the-series-far-longer-than-he-intended

'What's up with the pinwheel?' OHHHH BOI! 🙃🫠😭 You'll love it 🥰

Haylo

Oh we did not realize the symbolism of the tangerines! Love that!

There are many differences between LA and anime/manga in the Arlong Arc. In the anime it is like 12-14 episodes and only two in the LA, so they needed to shorten everything. Hachi and Momoo didn't even appear, but I guess this is mainly because it would have been very difficult to make those two characters work well in LA. They did a good job in the LA, but the anime will have some awesome surprises for you, enjoy it :)

MotU_Shosha

I guess the warlords were intended from the beginning, but it was not indended to give whole arcs to the warlords. And there is another group of people that got much screentime and streched the story. I don't want to spoiler anything but I guess you know who I mean when I say that I am talking about that group of 11 persons that we get to know around episode 400. Without all the stories about these two groups the anime would have been finished years ago, maybe Oda-sensei's estimation of 600 episodes would have become true without these originally not intended arcs.

Mone

100% It's a smol detail but it's (imo) so important 🩷

MotU_Shosha

There are so many small things that make this arc the peak of the whole east blue saga and this little pinwheel is one of them.

EgregiousGrievous

You confusing the Y***Os as the ones Oda never intended to write about. The 7 were always part of his original story.

MattF315

Oh you might be right. The article I linked said it was the warlords rather than the Y***o’s who were an unintended addition, but that sounds feasible too

EgregiousGrievous

Momoo did appear in the OPLA as he was just named on a drawing of the opening map of east blue.

The pinwheel!

Snowman9712

As far as I know, it's neither. His editor advised him to add the S*p****vas to make the arc they first appear in more interesting

Wow, I'm reading some comments and i just gotta say girls. If you don't know by now, one piece fans be crazy. P.S. people like to be spoiling stuff so watch out.

Wojciechu

Wait so it actually was not in the LA? Why do I have a memory of it being there xD They probably left it out because it would look too goofy for LA standards.

Wojciechu

There's so much nostalgia in your voice when you're seeing analogies to the LA, like you've watched it years ago xD It's cute :D
