Ghin’s sacrifice and the subsequent Luffy vs Kreig is my favorite fight in the whole east blue saga, more so than Luffy vs Arlong. Although Nami’s “help me” is of course a more iconic, impactful, and just better preamble to the fight.

The theme that plays in the battle is called 'Overtaken' and it is so thrilling everytime I hear it. This song is used until recent episodes. I always want to join the strawhats in battle hearing it. It is almost as if the music would put a part of Luffys determination in my body and make me stronger, too. And it is also a great music for the gym to push your training ;)

Luffy fighting Kreig and inspiring sanji with his determination is so crucial and it got left off the LA. In the LA he just gets easily one tapped by Arlong and sanji just like "man this loser that just got his ass beat, guess I'll join him. I need I ride cause zef is mean to me."

Luffy punching through the spiked iron cape is my favorite scene. epic! This is the one episode that Luffy truly shines. His first impression to the world audience.

The thing you gotta understand about Ghin is that he has a lot of pride in who he is. We don't really know his backstory, but you can clearly see that he respects power more than anything. Ghin, fundamentally is someone who responds to power and follows it because he believes in it. He's loyalty and dedication are aspects of that. Had Ghin met some powerful and wise person, Ghin would have followed them with the same level of dedication that he does Krieg currently. Instead he met Krieg, and he made a choice to follow him. The same way Sanji cooks for someone who is hungry no matter what, Ghin follows orders from Krieg because he believes in Kreigs power. He even says that he doesn't believe that everything they've done till now is wrong (raising the white flag to attack is a warcrime and such), and he still tries to follow those orders, but it's just that he can't kill Sanji because of what Sanji did for him since no one in his life had been that kind to him ever before. Because of Sanji, he doesn't want to hurt anyone here, or want them to get hurt, which is why he begs for them to leave instead. He can't let Luffy, someone he now likes, die, and he FIRMLY believes that no one is individually stronger than Krieg. (The whole thing with Mihawk is so freakish that with the recent starvation and still recent memories, they we're probably coping hard and not thinking about him). Luffy tells Ghin not to die so that he can see Luffy defeat Krieg, which would prove beyond a doubt that Krieg is not the pinnacle of power, which would set Ghin free from that mental trap of faith to Krieg and his power. There's one other bit I want to mention about Ghin but it hasn't happened yet so I'll wait until we get there :)
