Dynamic Dungeons Editor 1.0.6 is live on Steam (Patreon)
Content
I’m happy to announce that the updated version of Dynamic Dungeons Editor is available on Steam. Those who have already installed it have nothing to do - as the software will update automatically after the start.
Let’s see what’s new:
- The updated default DLC contains more playmats, some webm effects, and a lot of particle effects
You can already be familiar with the playmats from the back catalog, but these frequently used backgrounds are easier to access this way. Third-party webm effects (like these) can also be used besides new built-in webm effects and other ones as long as they are created with vp8 coding since Unity only supports this coding as of now.
Quite a few particle effects got in. Find them in the library (bulleted list icon), the panel is on the right as usual and the last flame icon indicates the particle effects. Unfortunately, there are no thumbnails here, but I've loaded the library with some really spectacular stuff, well worth a look. Those who are good with Unity can build Unity particle effects thanks to a community project, for which you find a tutorial, too. We’ll set up a community folder where we’ll share particle effects and webms created by users. Please let me know what the ideal platform for this could be.
- Weather presets
You can find multiple weather presets in the default DLC, in the video category like fog, rain, storm, blizzard, etc. These are videos that can be expanded upon in time. In ‘add blending mode’ you can move these presets onto the scene with Ctrl + ALT + drag and get some nice weather conditions as a so-called overlay. They can be further edited with brightness, contrast, and hue. (who doesn't want red snow?) What weather effects should be next? Please let me know.
- Not only can you zoom in but out of the background, too.
- Grid improvements
Some new settings are in Default grid, fan-favorite grid locking (which would keep the grid fixed even if you zoom in or adjust the background), and a grid calculator that would make it easier to adjust the grid for your tv.
- Freehand drawing tool
A simple but useful tool so we don’t have to wipe off our marks from the plexiglass anymore. :)
Miscellaneous upgrades and functions of convenience:
- We have made some performance improvements so the software is less demanding for your computer now
Of course, you still need a powerful computer for my 4k videos, and a dedicated video card is a strong necessity for using several props and effects.
- Tutorials are available.
I’m still looking for ideas on what would require some more explanation.
- Scalable UI (available in settings)
- Tooltips pop up faster
- Possibility to return to startup window
- Notes panel got bigger, got more streamlined
- Titles of scenes in story mode can be renamed after a click
- Props can be deleted with the delete or backspace button
- Scale adjustment option for props and set as default scale function are in
- a group of props can be colored
- additive blending mode for props
- turn prop to background switch
- reset the splash screen button
- different brushes for the fog of war function
- the name of the currently open project displayed
- other minor convenient features and bug fixes
Thank you all for your patience and support! I'm especially grateful for the beta testers. I hope you'll be happy with the software!
If you encounter any issues, please report them here.
