Upload Notes: Weathered Affection Parts II & III (Patreon)

Howdy everyone~ Up front, I decided to upload this last "half" of Weathered Affection into two parts! For my patrons, I've made both parts available right away. Dig in and enjoy! For non-patrons, you'll have to wait just a little bit longer for part III, but part II will be available in just a few days~ I decided to break it up this way due to the length of each segment, and because there was a pretty nice break point when the car chase ends.

With part III done, Weathered Affection is complete! I had a lot of fun writing this story, like I had said last week in the previous upload notes. There weren't any more opportunities to get that Cloverfield-like vibe, the narrative was past the point of using that as a mechanic, but I still think I got a gritty sense of suspense with what I had going~ Sort of feels right that after watching the monster on screen, it's then upon you, chasing you~ Really fun dynamic, and I still want to revisit that concept again! I think it could make for very fun shorts, especially if I used pre-established characters or people's OCs or something...

We also dip into the past and see how Lorita and Cassidy first met~ I think this was very cute, hehe. Originally, I had written things so the flashback was more of a thing in mention, with no direct description of their high school history. But both the patron and I thought it'd made the interactions that much juicier if we saw their relationship play out with more specifics. It also makes for a nice break, I think! After watching all this destruction happen, it all occurs to Lorita that she's the one being hunted for by the monster on screen, all because of some long-gone drama. The flashback, admittedly, isn't the highlight of Weathered Affection haha but I do think it added, not took away~ I think it makes both characters sympathetic -- Cassidy's hung up from having been manipulated, but the reader is surely aware that Lorita doesn't deserve this.

Had a bit of an exhibition thing towards the end, too! I feel like I could have played this part up just a little better, but it came towards the end and I already felt like things were progressing slightly too slow. So I tried summarizing the ideas I wanted to otherwise get to, like news helicopters watching Cassidy masturbate, or Lorita's neighbors seeing her be used like a toy. The intro to Weathered was pretty good, I felt, at establishing a "general human" perspective, so I think that helps allow me get away with only so little mention of the exhibitionist qualities.
