I tend to paint dark stuff. That's just what I'm drawn towards. The macabre if you will. Reflecting the fact that everyone dies. Death is a part of life. It's grim and morbid but it's also beautiful and fascinating. I've always tended towards that side with my art because it's more natural and comfortable for me.
But outside of my art, in my life, I don't really line up with this macabre way of looking at death. I lean more into the absurdity of it all. There's more humor in that.
So for these paintings I was trying to incorporate that aspect of myself into the work more. Rather than just painting ghosts as creepy as I can make them, I wanted combine the spookiness with some absurdity and humor. So I looked at a lot of looney toons depictions of ghosts as well as a lot of actually creepy ghost costumes and dark art. This is what I came up with.
**I really want to post the prompts and make these pieces available before Halloween. So I rushed to put them in the secret Choir shop to give you all a head start. Oh yeah and they are all discounted only for you guys.
Oogely Boogely!
This one by far took the longest and I think it achieves what I was trying to do the best.
I could not get a picture with my phone that captures the true orange color of the eye things. The color on the main post image is the closest.
8x10 inches. Acrylic on Panel. in an ornate frame that goes perfect with it.
