I wanted to write a little bit about a series that I've really been enjoying, called Dorohedoro! It's a really strange story about a man named Caiman (in the art above) who lives in a world where sorcerers come to practice magic on humans. Caiman was a victim of this magic and has sworn to find the sorcerer who did it to him.

Beyond that it's a very strange story, very grimdark and ultraviolent so if you're not in the mood for that kind of thing definitely give it a pass... and yet it manages to be really light and funny at times? Like in the drawing above, one of Caiman's most defining features is that he loves to eat gyoza :)

They recently made an adaptation for Netflix which I'm also watching. I haven't finished that one yet, but I can say that it is a pretty "fast-paced" adaption. It's fun, but I think I've been enjoying the manga more.

The art style and the plot are both very surreal, and the flow of the TV series makes it feel a bit disorienting (to me). In the manga you can really take in the weird panels and cool action sequences and plot twists. I also love the delicious grit of the manga and the way it's inked. It kind of reminds me of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (How's that for a throwback?).

It's one of those strange series where I think the more we learn about the world the less sense it makes, but I have to admit that the world and characters have really drawn me in, and even after 6 books I'm excited to read more.

So if you're looking for something profoundly weird and detached from reality, give Dorohedoro a try :)
