Hey everyone! Apparently a lot of different tax laws have been passed in a number of different jurisdictions, and as a result Patreon has to change how it is collecting payment a bit. The bottom line impact on some of you will be 4-11% tax being charged on your pledges, and this goes into effect June 1st.

Here's what I've done:

  • I spent the afternoon reading a lot of sexy exciting tax stuff
  • I have adjusted the settings on my Patreon to honestly report what is being given here, and making sure that they only collect tax on your pledges if they absolutely have to
  • The majority of what is being made in my Patreon is not in a taxable category, and less than half of all Patrons live in taxable regions.

If you want more detail on the what, who and why of this tax, I believe you should also have access to this page

If this ends up affecting you in a significant way please let me know! We can work together to adapt what we're doing here so this continues to be worthwhile for all involved. If you are going to be affected, you will be getting an email from Patreon specific to your situation soon, but I wanted to give you all a heads up first.

Finally, THANK YOU for being Patrons and joining me on this journey. Here's some of the stuff you have to look forward to in the next few months!

  • I'm going to be taking Patron Questions and making answer comics this month, since we're over $200 and it's June! (This will start on Monday)
  • Food Zine will soon be available for download for all Patrons :D
  • Your support made it possible for me to hire a colorist and we're working together on Shenzhen Fast! So, fancy full-colour completed pages of that work will be rolling out as a Patreon-exclusive soon :)

Please let me know if you have any questions and once again thank you for supporting me on Patreon :)

THANK YOU for this heads up, so I can research ahead of time. And I'm also supporting people using Ko-Fi more recently, because their model seems more sustainable in the long run (but we'll have to see): that's just in case you feel like you need/want to have multiple options.

AHA! Starting on July 1st. Okay, so this isn't as annoying as I originally thought. :) I edited the above information so I don't confuse anyone else.

Thanks for the heads up! I've heard of Ko-Fi and looked into it briefly. I'm glad there are more options coming out!
