Trevor had to be out of town this weekend and I'm here with him :)

***

Okay, hello Patrons it is Sunday! I am here in Silverstar, British Columbia...(is it SilverStar, is it a city?). Silverstar is a mountain outside Vernon, British Columbia. And basically, this is the ride leader's retreat. So, Trevor volunteers for an organization called NS Ride which is basically leading people [sorry there are like mosquitoes buzzing around...] It's leading people on the trails and he is a volunteer ride leader. And this weekend is the retreat for all the people who went ride leading. So I am here along with him. But everyone's out riding and I'm alone in this big house, so... :)

I'm doing what I can. Let me show you what Silverstar looks like for whatever it's worth... it's just... trees. There isn't much of a view at this place. But it's a really nice place.

I've been reading Shadoweyes to get ready for the next Tradewaiters that we will be recording next week. Possibly tomorrow...? Really soon. I better finish this book. But the other book that we are reading is Scott Pilgrim, and I already finished the two books of that. It was a re-read for me and that was pretty straightforward. Scott Pilgrim, very much recommend if you've never checked it out and we are going to be going through all six books.  But Shadoweyes is one that I also have read before, but I have not read it in awhile, and I also can't remember if I read this colour edition.

So this is a work by Sophie Campbell... and if you've never heard of it before, it's basically ... it takes place in this alternate history version of our universe, right, so it's got this cyberpunk kind of aesthetic, this very gritty world where there are a lot of social problems. And the main character, Scout, one day, transforms into this blue monster that you can see here. So, Scout is that one.

And before they even transformed they had dedicated themselves to vigilante justice, and now they finally had this huge body that they were able to go around and enact vigilante justice in the way that they wanted, and they were really excited about that.

But, it started to have all of these repercussions in their life, you know, who were the right people to attack and who were the right people to defend? When things were all screwed up and very grey, Scout had a really hard time making that decision. And it also... their decisions and who they decided to protect, and who they decided to tell... that had all sorts of ramifications in their personal life as well. So, between her best friend, her new friends, her mother... things like that.

So it's a very different kind of superhero book, because I find it doesn't focus very much on the "wham! pow!" kind of justice and it is very ... it's very nuanced in its presentation. The characters are all very fleshed out and very unique and that is another staple of Sophie Campbell's work. If you've ever read anything by Sophie Campbell. I think their most famous series... I'm not sure what you would call their most famous series. Wet Moon is the one that always jumps to mind first for me. Which is an incredible series about a group of college-age students who live in the south and their lives. And they were also the lead artist for one of the recent Jem and Holograms ones... sorry one of the Jem and the Holograms stories, but I haven't read that one yet.  But I love Sophie Campbell's work, I love the way they draw people and I love the, kind of... the GRIT that's everywhere in their panels. So that's Shadoweyes and I will be talking about that more on the Tradewaiters that we will be recording this week.

So! I'd better get running, there is a lot of stuff that I gotta do to pack up and head home, so, I will catch you all on the internet. Baiee <3
