It was nice to see more fight scenes than just about every other episode, save for maybe the ep with Danny Rand. For sure, they didn't know that this would be the last season. This was before they cancelled Daredevil. which started the wave of cancellations of the Netflix shows. As a whole, I honestly feel like the show just wasn't necessary. Not every character needed their own series. I would have been fine if they just told his story in Jessica Jones and left it at that. It's not that I don't like the character. But he always works better as a counterpart to other heroes, like Spider-Man but of course, they didn't have the rights to use him. Hell, they couldn't even tie this universe in with the MCU. I think that's largely what made people start to lose interest after awhile. I like the actor that plays Luke. I like his powers and how badass he is. But the rest of the characters, to me were pretty meh. Misty I never really cared for. She just seems like the annoying detective type that's always at every crime scene asking everyone questions like she is the only cop in Harlem. I know she is a more versatile character in the comics but I don't think they wrote her well on the series. Well, after the next episode, you'll be done with this series and onto Iron Fist season 2. That's another character that would've done well with just having him in the Defenders and not have an entire show dedicated to him. But I guess they wanted to use the characters they could as much as they can. I don't remember season 2 that well, so I will be watching it with you as well and of course finishing out the universe.

Yes, that fight with BM and Luke at beginning was good. Why they had so many axes … ??? I got nothing. The bomb was strong enough to blow Luke across the room but didn’t even tear his hoody. Come on now! Awww, Stan the man on a poster. RIP Mr. Lee. Shades doing a complete recap of both seasons. That was a good point Shan, I never thought of that, Shades kill Comanche for snitching and now he is one, add hypocrite to his list of crimes. Another good fight scene, two in one episode, that’s a little better. I knew as well Bushmaster was going to take the whole shot. It made him strong enough to damn near beat Luke Cage and bust into that safe room. At first I thought Luke was just going to choke BM out, it wasn’t until Mariah kept yelling break his neck and the look in Lukes eyes that I realized he was thinking it. I like that Misty brought him around but I’m not sure that I like that he was tempted in the first place. I get he couldn’t let BM kill Mariah and still be the hero, but to kill someone else to protect her, someone not nearly as evil as she is, no, I don’t agree with that. So Shades gave Misty the gun, now we just have to see if the charges stick. Mariah isn’t wrong, there’s no prints on the gun, the only person seen holding it was Shades, and all the testimony given is by Shades, a convicted criminal with a plea deal. My thoughts on Show in general. The show has its faults. No doubt. But in all I still enjoy it. Its dialog heavy but the dialog is almost always good. The plots can be slow at times but they are on track and support the story. The secondary characters don’t dominate the show like they did in Iron Fist. But they are interesting. Misty, Clare, Bobby Fish, Pops, Scarfe, and even Sugar as well as others. The villains are always interesting. Cottonmouth, Bushmaster, Black Mariah, Shades and to some degree Diamondback. I liked him least. Luke is a very likable hero with kewl powers, even if we don’t see them enough. The show needed more action but I get that special effects are expensive and that limits the use of them. Daredevil doesn’t really require any special effects so he can do his fights scenes for far less than Luke with his super strength. But still, I think they could have done some practical effects for a little for action scenes. I still liked it far better than Iron Fist S1. And better than many seasons of the CW superhero shows.

I grappled with commenting about the show a few episodes ago. Decided against it since I wasn't going to say anything positive, but now you asked for it. lol. This episode was one of the best to me. Probably because Shades is my favorite character and going through the past events through his eyes was more refreshing than going through the current events of this show, namely because almost every scene is done like a theatre performance. Everyone just stands around and delivers corny lines. Every main character on this show is a fantastic actor, but they get wasted by terrible directing. I know you talked about how you didn't like them cutting the show with the musical performances while actual drama was happening. I wholeheartedly agree. I get having the musician be a part of the scene when they are in Harlem's Paradise, but this episode they legitimately had multiple 10 second conversations separated by 30 seconds of music, with nothing going on. I'm calm now. The villains on this show are interesting, Cottonmouth having the best, most grounded, performance... but Mariah has that dawg in her. The only way I was able to re-watch this season was to know that eventually she was going to do some diabolical doo doo. I realized that during this episode, Shades was just protecting his deal by trying to save Mariah. If Bushmaster killed her before the cops got her, he was probably going down. p.s. The actor that plays Luke is fantastic on Evil if anyone wants to check out a great show. Also, this show as a whole couldn't even touch the worst season of Arrow. I won't defend any other CW shows though ;)

Well as mystique would say “daredevil’s mutation is invisible” he looks like a very athletic man while using powers but Luke’s powers are visible and couldn’t be mistaken for anything normal. Punisher also had more action since punisher depicts nothing superhuman, and therefore can be practical and practical effects can be very cheap and easy compared to digital effects. Having Luke do action scenes without using his powers would just be out of character. It’s also why Jessica jones doing her huge jumps is shot off screen. She bends down and the camera cuts to a close shot of her legs or boots and she jumps out of frame, then cuts to people’s reactions. Or it shows her just landing by her jumping into shot from a stepladder. The one time they showed her jumping in shot was her fantasy of escaping kilgrave on that white horse. It looked bad but that was just a fantasy so it shouldn’t count. It didn’t look real because it wasn’t. In the s1 finale she does jump over the cops. But she jumps off the ledge in one shot, then cuts to police looking at her fly over them, it cuts to her flying over them in slow motion from the perspective of the cops, so she just jumped over the camera. Cuts to the cops again following her with their eyes, they go over and down as she clears them and falls. Then a close shot of her landing so she could have jumped from a chair behind camera. They shoot on location a lot in New York with some actors that don’t often do TV, And with Netflix the profits aren’t high. They have to keep budgets down. The obvious solution is to do less episodes per season. Cut the dialogue and add more action. Many have said it over the years but contrary to what people say about this being “superhero action show” the defenders saga have always been gritty gangster/detective dramas for a more mature audience. A lot of people prefer dialogue over action. Seriousness over silliness.
