I think the reason the fires targeted Chester, even though there were other people around him that suffered loss, was because he never really dealt with the grief. He kept it buried. So it kind of makes sense I think.

Also it seems him seeing the charred bodies brought that grief to the surface again. He was shown to be severely uncomfortable even just looking at the bodies throughout this episode. The fire entity like any predator in the wild probably goes for the easiest targets. Chester being reminded of his father's death so recently would've been like a bleeding and limping deer to the entity.

Yeah why was it only feeding off of Chester's grief? This thing.. Whatever it is has a bunch of people trapped at S.T.A.R. Labs who all have their own grief about something ...But nah... Let's just only go after Chester ...Who lost his dad when he was a kid and ACTUALLY got to meet him a while back and so perhaps is the only person there who kinda had closure ....This made no sense Ok guys... That was the longest possible way to try and explain that the fire y'all thought was being controlled by a meta was actually the meta himself ...Did we need to fill some time in the episode or something? Why this entire scene?? ...Here ya go... You guys listening? "The fire is a meta" BOOM. Let's go.. Next scene ....Coulda spent more on Iris's problem with losing time... Now we got a cliffhanger to deal with

Going into Flash-time to save himself and Frost wouldn’t have helped them. While in Flash-time very little time passes for everyone outside its influence, time freezes for rest of world. So, the whole time he and Frost were in it nothing would have changed outside the Flash-time field. Flash needed to give Chester time to solve the issue while he and Frost were trapped. Phasing out was best option. But what I don’t get is why If phasing protected them from Black Flame why Flash didn’t just leave the area with Frost while phasing out.

Technically I think Chester never dealt with his grief of his father just kept buried it for so many years so the fire could have sense all of that grief even though Allegra suffered a more recent death like my sister died and I buried all of those feelings until 2 years in the death I just exploded and let All of those feelings out Iris and Sue going after a new meta is kinda interesting and maybe if they help then she could decide to be a hero or not And probably the fire could reminds someone grief and it's could probably put those feelings inside person again being reminded of a death of a love one can make them go through those feelings again so I understand why it after Chester At least Barry is acting smart and not dumb like the previous seasons
