This episode was obviously based of the tale of the little mermaid.

I think the reason why the father admitted to it and not say it was the two guys was because he wanted his daughters out of jail before they dehydrated too much, and there was no proof that they did it and without the girls talking he didn't have time for a better plan.

This kind of behavior of protecting guilty people within your own community is an unfortunately truth. It's what would probably happen. We see it over and over. Good cops protecting bad cops just because they are cops, churches protecting child molesters and creeps because they are part of the church, family members lying for other family members even when the victim is also a family members. Humans are communal creatures who instinctual protect those in their own communities and unfortunately that gets applies in case where it shouldn't. People who are otherwise nice will protect total scumbags just because they are in the same community as them, even in cases where they so something incredibly evil. If this episode helps someone get what that's the wrong thing to do, then it may do some good.
