At first it was a little visual whiplash that we got a new character but it's better later on

It's basically the first season again, but with the benifit that we know(and love) the majority of the supporting characters already, so it's only the origin for Ryan. I kinda liked what they did. It would've been more jarring for me to just tune in and Kate had a new actor, without any explanation why she looks different. It's not Rhodey from MCU, Ruby was THE lead, her face was everywhere, she was in a recap before the season premiere, they made her goddamn paragon in the Crisis, so I like the choice that the show made with the new character. Ryan Wilder was created for the show, but before the season 2 premiered in january 2021, Ryan Wilder appeared in the Batgirl #50 comic book issue in october of 2020. She's not a Batwoman there obvi, but it's cool. Kinda like when they introduced John Diggle in Green Arrow comics after he became a fan fave in the Arrow show, for wich he was an original character)
