I had a magic kit when I was a kid. It came with this one trick I thought was going to go over terribly, but it blew away my friends. The trick was to curl you fingers to create a cup. It's like curling them around your thumb, but without your thumb there. Anyways, you do a bunch of showy stuff, pour salt into the cup you made with your hand, pack it down with your other thumb, then poof, open your hand and the salt is gone. Make the cup again, pack it with your other thumb again, then pour out the salt to everyone's amazement. The reason why I thought it would go terribly, was because it involves a fake thumb. It was this horrible looking plastic thumb that fits over your thumb. The color was way lighter than mine, I could only imagine the disappointment of someone from a non caucasian race. Up close, it looked deformed too. At a distance though, I guess none of my friends could tell. So, the trick goes, you curl your hand to make the cup. You put your thumb in it, where you leave the fake thumb cover behind in the cup. So when you pour the salt into the cup, you're pouring it into the fake thumb. When you pack it down with your thumb, you're really putting the fake one, with the salt, back on your thumb. You distract the audience by opening your hand and there's no salt. Make the cup again, put your thumb in and leave the fake one again, then simply pour the salt out. Super easy and you too can do it, if you can find the magic trick set I bought many decades ago. It was neat, but ultimately I was too lazy for magic. To be any good requites lots of practice. For really good card tricks, it takes daily practice for years. It's crazy.
