I made an extra thumbnail as this episode gave me such nostalgia and since they recreated the scene with Oliver on the island getting discovered, I wanted to recreate my 1x01 thumbnail reaction as well.

This is not what I wore in the reaction, I took the picture after watching the episode.

I hope you like the throwback!

This is the best Laurel has ever looked in my opinion, the hair cut and the costume combo is spectacular. I also had the same question about the green arrow being chase when I saw this episode the first time. Best I can guess based on the information provided in this episode is that Robert Queen was the hood (if I remeber correctly) but didnt take up the Arrow/Green Arrow mantel like Oliver did. That sort of makes sense I guess.

They definitely started this final season very strong. Easily, my favorite Arrow season premiere of the show

Definitely have to watch this right away.

Or the timeline on Earth-2 has changed since Season 2 of the Flash

Ray's suit is made of a dwarf star alloy meaning the dwarf star is melted with other metals to create a new metal. While i assume the dwarf star particles are purified in a way no other earth has managed. I get why you don't like it but i saw the deathstroke gang as a parallel to batman beyond's the jokers

Laurel’s suit looks amazing. Nice update to Diggle’s suit with the green. Oliver’s new suit based on the season 1-3 suit looks amazing. I love that the hood and mask is back. Nothing against Oliver not wearing it in S7 but it just look right for this suit. Honestly, this episode is probably in my top 10 favorite Arrow episodes. Definitely my favorite premiere episode. I just felt like everything worked this episode especially with all the nostalgia. I liked that he beat Tommy both times pretty easily given his experience. Only thing that felt out of place was the flash forwards; however, each scene was only like 1-2 minutes long and there was like 4 scenes so they didn’t detract too much but still kinda felt out of place. Otherwise fantastic episode

I'm not sure how to feel about this episode. Not that I personally thought it was bad. It was definitely, as you said, a fun nostalgia trip. And you made a great point, that Oliver was able to succeed this time around where he failed the last time. Nice way to bring it all full circle. But the fact that there was so much repeat of the first season's plot, just with different characters in the same roles, was probably a bit of a risk. Some, like you, might've enjoyed the nostalgia. Others might've been frustrated. It's a thin line to walk, the one between nostalgia and retread. Like with Star Wars: The Force Awakens or the time heist of Avengers: Endgame.

Tommy to Oliver as the wave of anti-matter hit: "Ollie? I don't feel so good..."

Arrow 1x1 keeps getting recommended on youtube for me, so I've seen that thumbnail a million times. Very cool to recreate it! Pretty close on the outfit too!

That was "Star Labs" that you saw. That site is used a TON throughout the Arrowverse. It is often shot from angles where you can't make out what it is. It's a stadium in Vancouver so it's an easy site for them to block off.

I love this episode every time I watch it.

Robert was outed to the public as the Hood on the news in Flash season 2. That was like 3.5-4 years ago, so who knows what happened in that time. It was Ollie who killed Adrian's father, so maybe Robert didn't do that, and that is why Chase is on a different path on this Earth. Laurel looks great.....she always does, but it's even greater now. Thank God she got this new dope suit. New Arrow suit is also looks great. The titile card arrowhead logo is season 1 logo. This logo also was used in 3x14 The Return when Thea and Oliver were fighting Slade on the Island and the flashbacks had Ollie and Maseo travel to Starling City. In episode 5x23 Lian Yu, the season 5 finale. And in episode 6x18 Fundamentals, when Ollie was druged with Vertigo, he was hallucinating Chase, dressed up in his season 1 Arrow suit and went after Diaz alone. In Flash 6x02, when Barry went to Earth-3 to talk to Jay about anti-matter. Jay had a board with all the Earths and on that board it said Earth-2 Next Anti-matter appearance. Flash 6x02 and Arrow 8x01 aired on the same day. So if you caught what was written on the board, you could've predicted what happened in the end of this episode))) There were so many callbacks to season 1, especially during both fights with the Dark Archer. They did the same/similar moves and stunts, that was so cool. And of course James Bamford directed it, who better than the stunt coordinator who's been with the show since the first episode)) That was one of my favourite episodes of Arrow of all time. Definitely the best premiere this show even had.......dare I say it, the best season premiere in the whole Arrowverse (thus far at least) That was nostalgia done right. You apreciate it all of you're a fan. And if you're not a fan, why would you still watch the show by the season 8?! And also, Rene made sense, he's ex-military, he probably never got his daughter back, probably went to a dark place after his wife dies, he loves guns, so becoming a gun for hire is not that far fetched and who can pay more than Queens and Merlyns. If you remember a lot of Rene's actions were influenced by Ollie on our Earth, so without him, that's what you get((( Also Dinah was clearly a bad guy in this episode, so it was appropriate to shit on her. And I know you love to do it, so why didn't you?)))

Robert was the hood in earth 2. I guess he died and eventually andrian chase took the mantle. The deathstroke gang seem similar to the one in legends episode in the future star city in season 1. They just did not call themselves gang. also rene being there it just another universal different possibilities.

Jon

The actress who played felicity left the show at end of season 7.

Jake Hodgson

I feel that's kind of a spoiler as she had yet to finish the season.

Jon

Not sure hows that's a spoiler when that was announced when season 7 ended. So if she is watching season 8 as we did when it aired live then we knew before season 8 aired.

Brandon Wiesner

It was definitely a good episode and after the second half of S7, it's definitely refreshing. It's disappointing though that they are continuing with the flash forward storyline. I find myself tuning out every time they go to those scenes.

Andrew Polinski

Yeah not really a spoiler, it was actually announced in season 7 just before the episode where they did that whole time montage of Mia's training, that it was Emily's last season. Even the finale of S7 with Felicity going with the Monitor in the year 2040 or whatever the year was felt somewhat like a farewell to the character.

And just to clear things just because we know casting changes before a season, means nothing as shan has said many times she doesnt want to know any of that.

Zach Hershman

I liked the future scenes. They were quite fun. With seeing them in this episode I think it became obvious that they would be involved in Crisis somehow. In the comics there are a ton of superheroes fighting on the side of good, so they are going to need everyone they can get. (I know what happens so won't give a full answer. This is how I felt as it originally aired.)
