The machine on SHIELD was called the Theta Brain-Wave Frequency Machine.

I agree the scenes set in the future do take away some of the fun and fear you may have while watching. You know that Dinah is going to survive, so no need to ever get scared or anything. But I have to say that it also is an interesting feature, to see what is going to happen in the future.

i know I'm late to this, but the same could be said for flashbacks. If you see a character in danger in the past that you've seen in the current time, you don't really have to worry about them in the flashbacks since you already know they are still alive. I liked the flashforwards as a new way to get people thinking. Trying to figure out how they got to that point and motivations instead of just worrying if they survive.

Way late to the conversation but No future is guaranteed in the Arrowverse. The Legends literally used the motto screwing things up for the better. Not to mention speedsters creating new timelines. A couple episodes ago we saw Diggle's son suddenly 2-4 years older than he should be. I like to think that is due to Nora's Flashpoint (XS-Point?). It was probably for some casting reason but I think it's funnier having Dig's life somehow tied to the speed force so that every time a speedster changes the timeline it directly affects his offspring. Maybe that's why he can't handle superspeed without getting sick.
