The lack of students is COVID protocol related. Adding on the lack of money storyline, a storyline I usually despise, works for me here since it makes sense. Another thing to take note of. The show was shot in pods this year. The Mystic Falls HS actors/actresses and film crew were in one old while the Salvatore school had their own pod of people. The rare instances where one person from one pod interacts with someone from the other pod (Josie and Lizzie) those scenes were most likely filmed at the start of filming before the 2 pods broke off into their own groups. Hopefully everyone on set will get their vaccine in the next month and things can get closer to normal.

I've never been a huge fan of Landon's from the start of the show so all this Landon this, Landon that is really kind of annoying IMO. yeah as Zach stated COVID protocols restricted everything. Also noticed Danielle (Hope) is much thinner this season, guessing where others put on weight due to having nothing to do during COVID, Danielle spent more time in the gym.
