I watched Winx Club until season 5. I think I was 20 when season 6 started and I saw 1 or 2 episodes of that. Then stopped watching, don't know why, maybe I had become too old to be interested in the Winx anymore. Also and perhaps weird to say as a male, but I thought it was a tv good show. As for the remake, I don't know what to say about it. Shan I think you mentioned many of the important points. I get the idea of a dark version, but Netflix has changed too much in my opinion. I miss Tecna and Flora and where are the witches? Beatrix can work instead of the Trix, I wonder what that will look like. As for Aisha's outfit in the woods, she was exercising (swimming), so maybe that's why she was wearing some kind of sports outfit. I hope it will get (a little) better, but I fear the worst. Finally, Shan are you going to analyze all Winx Club reactions in this way or will this be the new standard for all your reactions? Anyway, Shan I enjoyed your reaction, high quality as always.

The first episode is longer than others so she could go through in detail given it is the first episode of a live action remake of a show she loved. She may decide to do something similar in the future for other shows or episodes but will likely be when she feels it is necessary rather than a standard.

The wings is probably about budget, it would be REALLY expensive to have the wings.

Zoot!

I don't have the original to compare to, but I enjoyed this on it's own. I didn't really know what to expect, but this wasn't it. Basically a Harry Potter type thing, but I find this universe to be very interesting so far. Not the best thing ever, but I'll watch episode 2 for sure. That said, it really sucks when a favorite of yours is remade and they don't stick to the source material and mess things up. Hopefully there'll be enough good in this series to enjoy as it's own thing.

I just analyzed this one as I felt that I had a lot to say about it. I wouldn't want to do this formula for every show as some shows I prefer to just enjoy and not overanalyze and it's more of a Geeked Out Nation thing to do and I wouldn't want to step on those toes as they do it better :P Also, the first 3 seasons are great, but the show quietly and discretely made them teenagers again and then the show grew very childish as it was appealing more to kids rather than the demographic they had before.

AfterShowReactions

Also, I hope that everybody that watches this at least watches the first 5 minutes of the season finale. I did something embarrassing and I hope you enjoy it :)

Understandable, I didn't think it was likely that you would apply the same concept to other reactions. But was just wondering and I thought asking a question about it wouldn't hurt. And I totally agree the first 3 seasons are great. Personally Valtor is my favorite villlain. Perhaps the fact they made it more childish might have been a big part of why I stopt watching the show. I do understand that they wanted to attract a wider audience, unfortunately they decided to do it this way. Perhaps I should give the show another try, although I do remember I never liked how quickly the Winx got new magic in season 6.

AfterShowReactions

Valtor was definitely my favourite as well. I also heard he was brought back for season 8 somehow (but there's bigger issues with season 8). They white washed like, everybody.

Knowing that I am definitely going to watch the last 3 seasons. Because now I am very curious about what has changed during those seasons. Without expectations and with the hope that the last season won't be awfull.

Well, this just took me back to when I was outnumbered and forced to watch and one time play Winx Club by my sister and her friends when we were kids... lol My sister was a huge fan so was always on in the background  in our house.  Hard to compare to the original since I haven't seen it in so long now, but I wasn't very impressed with this first episode. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible or the worst thing ever but it was just so generic to me. It felt like every other supernatural teen drama, nothing to make it stand out or as you said to hook you and make you want to keep on watching.  Agreed on the wings, even if it was down to budget I'm sure they could have done something, it's not like they needed them in every scene... just seemed lazy idk

I haven't seen this. IT kind of reminds me of a few shows mixed together. I think there be moew flashbacks.

Shan, I’ve only watched this first episode, which I found hard to follow. I never saw any of the original Winx - I was a little too old for it in 2004 when it started. (Can’t shift-return on an iPad,). For me this is a new series. Considering your history with Winx, I feel that you are reacting to it as if it is a rewatch and not something new, and so your comments throughout are kinda spoilers for me. It’s difficult enough to learn about the characters and their relationships, and follow the story, while you’ve been comparing this new series to your beloved original. I know you’ve done a half dozen reactions already, so maybe you’ve changed your reaction style as you’ve moved ahead. I’ll find out as I watch more episodes. (shift-return) OTOH Half the pleasure of watching these is watching and listening to your animated, obviously enthusiastic, even if sometimes distracting, comments. Thanks for your hard work.

This was created and written by the original shows creator and writer, they didnt ruin it or mess anything up, the creator just wanted to tell a different story and in my opinion if the creator was involved in a remake of something then its most likely good.

I think the idea was to make the powers more nature-based, and technology is a human construct—any tool created for a purpose. The idea is pointless. I do, however, believe that music could have been reinterpreted as sound waves. If Stella can control light, then Musa should have been able to control sound.

Didn't expect it to be British, and the swearing was like O.O not sure how I feel about this show yet just starting to watch it now I grew up with the Original .....I also don't like how mean Stella ..
