This started as a series of short cartoons the same place that Beavis and Butthead started, Liquid Television. The shorts didn't make much sense either. They were basically just for visuals and the idea that the characters are in this futuristic world. The show pretty much follows the same formula. Whatever plot they're trying to convey, it takes second stage to the whole futuristic visuals and gadgets. There was actually a movie with Charlize Theron as well.

In the Charlize Theron movie, Aeon's name was pronounced with a silent 'a'. Same pronunciation as the word 'eon'.
